Guest slo poon
Has anyone got both versions of the game yet? I don't think it came out until today (10/10) and I want to know if the Dreamcast version is improved enough to give the game another chance (I traded the PSX one in a long time ago. What a horrible game). I'll probably buy the Dreamcast one anyway just for Kai Adi Mundi.
Guest Dave Maul
Wart does, I know that. And from what he said so far, he can't see much of a difference. ------------------
Guest Darth Wart
I have both versions, but the DC wasn't available in my area until 11:00 a.m. on the 11th, yesterday. I hung out in Electronics Boutique until that UPS guy came in -- I had to be the first geek on my block to have one. The game is MUCH improved, nearly all of the bugs are gone, the graphics are excellent, and I am playing with Ki-Ai-Mundi as I write this. Some differences: Unlike the PSX, this game discourages exploring. The PSX wanted you to explore all the nooks and crannies, whereas this version makes it clear you ain't getting in no secret caves. One thing that was not fixed, but that a lot of people complained about, was the fact that you could not get out of a lightsaber combo to adopt a blocking position. You still can't. However, in the DC, you automatically turn to face your enemy, which makes things a lot easier. You don't have to bother with the lock-on if you don't want to. The rolling armadillo is considerably more vicious and difficult in the DC version. On the whole, the DC version is easier; there's many more checkpoints, and the jumping sequences (tatooine and theed palace) have been made a lot more reasonable. Depth perception was a big problem in the PSX version: how am I supposed to do all these difficult jumps if I can't really tell where I am? Well, they haven't exactly fixed that problem (depth perception is still tricky), but the challenges based on it have been much watered-down, which I appreciate. There are fewer invisible walls in the DC version, but there still are some. Backtracking is easier, but it doesn't seem to be as necessary to maxing out each level (we'll see though, I'm just about to start Coruscant). It's a lot easier to fall into sarlacc pit this time! (As it should be!) Generally speaking, the AI of your enemies is better; they'll chase you all over and jump UP at you to get at you. For example, that guy over the Sarlaac pit in PSX would just remain stationary; in DC he'll chase you all over. One respect in which this game is WORSE than PSX is that your character's interaction with the environment isn't convincing at all. In the PSX game you could smash computers, windows, bushes -- all sorts of stuff. Your lightsaber's completely ineffective in this version, and I think that's a step backward. I think the ideal in this respect was the PC Phantom Menance, in which sparks flew when you hit something with your lightsaber. I've always felt that getting points for killing bushes was dumb though, so I'm glad that's gone. All in all though, it's the same damn game. Most of the things we used to complain about in this board have been fixed, but that doesn't mean you're going to like the game if you -- like me -- played the PSX version to death. I just wish I had played this one FIRST, because now I can't appreciate it as much as it deserves. ------------------ Wart Get your free JPB guide at: http://jedipowerbattlesguide.homestead.com/JPB.html
Guest slo poon
Thanks! I think I'll wait until a used copy rolls into Gamers, though. I'm also going to wait until some codes are hopefully released. That damn worm at the end of level 2 was, for some unknown reason, the hardest thing and I can't afford to replace any more broken controllers (PS2 is VERY expensive)so I want a level select or invincibility. BTW, how do you get Kai Adi Mundi? Got double-bladed Maul yet?
Guest DarthGohan1016
Wart: Hey I was just wondering that now you're playing as Ki adi Mundi, is he really worth all the hassle peeps made over him not being in the game? also, could you tell us some of his force powers? what they are I mean, thanks J.R. Guest Darth Wart
I have yet to discover (or be told) how to play as double-bladed Maul or Ki-Adi; when I said I was playing as Ki-Adi I was, but only on versus mode (which is pretty lame for me since I've no friends to play with). Ki-Adi's special force power is this thing where he emits a radar-looking thing that sends out small concentric circles from his heart; I don't know what it does yet. I just finished with Mace -- I'm going to play as Koon next; I'd like to see if they eased up on the ol' Plo vs. Koon situation. And Gohan, as for Ki being "worth it," he doesn't really seem to be all that much. In fact, the character art is so small on my tv that it looks like I'm simply playing with one of the coneheads. I guess I have to wait till I unlock him fair and square before I can comment on that. But I think that people are going to be moaning and groaning for ANYTHING that was left out. No matter how much you give people, they always want something MORE. That's just the way people are. First it was Ki-Adi. Now that we have him, I'm sure I'm going to start hearing laments about how cool this game would be "if only they had put Yarael Poof in! Those jerks ripped us off!" ------------------ Wart Get your free JPB guide at: http://jedipowerbattlesguide.homestead.com/JPB.html
Guest Darth_Simpson
I will have both versions soon. The DC version has yet to arrive. But I must say that I've only briefly played JPB PSX on my Bleem. I bought the game for $5 to try it out, but control without a gamepad was really hard, so I gave up. I can't wait to play the DC version!
Guest Obi-Juan Kenobi
Hey, I dont own both, but I did play them both alot! Not as much as Wart luckily, so I can appreciate it more. But there are ALOT of small and some BIG differences. Like the backgrounds and floors have changed in almose every level. and there are some more enemies in different place. And Jedi mode is harder than easy mode. I still hate the levels tatooine, and coruscant. I hate the 7th level also. But that is pretty much all the differences. Oh well. ------------------ John(juan)pronounced(wan) All to gether its Obi-Juan Kenobi. Check out My webpage! Guest BriGer
Tell us about the bosses. You said something about the armadillo was more vicious. In what way? Did he have more attacks? Was he faster? Did he do more damage? Did he take more hits to kill? What's the versus mode like? I heard you could unlock the loader droid. Does he still take just 5 hits to kill? Does his extended reach unbalance gameplay?
Guest Jerec350
The armadillo does not simply roll around and make boulders fall and there is no pit in the middle. He does 360's to hit you and rolls around and chases you. When you start to really damage him he makes the boulders come down and explode. The loader droid became available in vs mode when I beat the game as Obi-Wan. I thought he would just dominate in vs mode but thats not the case. You have to be in just as close as anyone else to land hits and he takes damage as anyone else.
Guest Jerec350
Also Ki-Adi-Mundi sucks. You unlock him by beating all the training modes. He runs slow and takes damage when blocking shots when Ultimate Saber in on. Does that make sense? I'm hoping it was just a glitch but I doubt it. His Force powers I have found so far are Adi Gallia's Confusion and Mace Windu's Saber Throw. No good combos either. Also his item icon looks like the one Adi Gallia has (which is a pretty good weapon) but instead he throws thermal detonators. In my opinion he is not worth playing. Guest Darth Wart
Ki-Adi Mundi definitely does suck. At first I thought my game was bugging out, so I turned it off for awhile. But not, that's definitely a bona fide glitch: Ki-Adi Mundi can block-reflect a shot back at an attacker, but in doing so he takes damage as though he had just been standing there and received the shot without doing anything. At first I thought this was my imagination, but no, it's definitely happening! What a pisser! You say it doesn't happen when Ultimate Saber's not on? I'll have to check that out. Meanwhile, I've noticed that it doesn't happen on some levels (like #1, for instance). I was really p.o.'ed when I discovered this glitch, but the fact that you can beat Jar-Jar to death makes some amends for it, in my opinion. ------------------ Wart Get your free JPB guide at: http://jedipowerbattlesguide.homestead.com/JPB.html
Guest Jerec350
On my copy he takes damage on level 1. I turned of Ultimate Saber and he blocks fine but as soon as you turn it on he takes damage (even from droid punches). I e-mailed Lucasarts Tech Support and let them know about all these glitches. Does anyone think they will release this as a version 2 like Midway did with Ready 2 Rumble & Mortal Kombat Gold when Dreamcast 1st came out? Lets hope so! Everyone needs to e-mail them and let them know. [This message has been edited by Jerec350 (edited October 15, 2000).]
