Though Maul is extremely skilled with the lightsaber, I think Vader is too strong in the force and would defeat Maul.

luke is the man with the plan.

now... i dont want this to sound like i'm picking on anyone or being mean cuz i'm not actually trying to ... but it seems like anyone who would think maul could defeat vader because he appears to be faster honestly doesnt understand what they are talking about. vader is so strong with the force that he would be able to see maul's moves before maul knew what moves to make! and how could ANYONE possibly disagree with acidrain's post!!

VADER FOREVER!! DARTH MAUL NEVER!!

now that you put it that way, liqid, i suppose that you are right, vader is a lot stronger with the force, but is slowed down a lot by his suit, on the other hand , maul is quicker, but weaker in the force, all and all, i think that it would be a close duel to the very end, dont you?

First of all, I only read page 1 of this post so excuse any duplicate opinions.

Vader would take it - highest midichlorian count of any being; he hunted down and wiped out all the Jedi except Yoda and Obi-wan. Hands down...Vader. Plus, by Episode 4 Vader has been through some terrible accident which is why the suit and reliance on all the mecahnical gadgetry. What was he like before that accident? (Let's leave out speculation and let George show us in the next 2!)

The only chance Maul had to woop Vader was in Episode1 when he almost ran Anakin over with his speeder bike (and even then Anakin dodged it!)

Darth Rave - Vader was not trying to kill Luke in 4-6, he was trying to lure him and turn him - he even wanted Luke to join with him and defeat the emperor (to rule the Galaxy as father and son, notice not son and father). To become the sith master, the apprentice must defeat his master to become the master.

A couple of points:

There's no proof that Vader is "stronger in the force" than Maul, unless somebody did a blood-count analysis of the Tatooed One without our knowledge. Hell, we already know Vader wasn't as strong as Sidious, because Vader was always the *apprentice*.

As for Vader being able to know Maul's moves before the happen....whatever. Vader's devotion to that ancient religion didn't give him the clairvoyance to fell decrepit Obi-Wan (cleanly) or pre-Jedi Luke. Hell, the only force-user he cleanly beat in a fair fight was Luke in Episode V, and he had all of a month or two of training at that point.

Setting aside what you think Vader (Anakin) might be like in Episodes II and III, there's no reason to think he'd be successful against Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan and Maul based on his documented abilities in the original trilogy.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. If episode 1 would have been made in the same era as 4-6, the saber battles would have been equally boring. It was almost 30 years ago when the original trilogy was made! Plus, not only with the movie quality so limited, the materials that Vader's suit were made of were very heavy and really hard to move in. I think it's sad that you people think it is speed that matters and not sheer power in the force! Never underestimate the power of the Dark Side! - Darth Vader, Greatest Dark Jedi! And the only reason Vader was the "apprentice of Palpatine" was, so i've heard, because Palpatine saved his life.

THERE IS NO QUESTION. SEE THIS IS HOW IS SEE IT..... ok, maul fight to really good jedi's. Darth fights luke and dies. Now maul died but that was just to satisify the fans. Maul didn't even get careless when he was fighting both of them. He has the power of two vaders. And we really don't know if he can do all the things that vader was able to do, because maul had a limited role and now it is cut short for he is dead but lives on with in many of us!!!!

Vader was the Dark Lord of the Sith, the big cheese. Palpatine and Vader had equal positions in the force. Palpatine was the Emperor though.

Exactly what does technology have to do with swordplay? Nothing. The only technology involved is in replacing the colored sticks with the lightsaber. And that technology existed and was used 20 years ago.

As for Vader's suit...well, that would be a real handicap for him.
