Why IP banning DOES NOT WORK.

To radically alter your IP address all you have to do is change your dialup number. It changes ALL FOUR octaves of your IP address. I suspect most people know this and are still hanging around.

Er...it depends on ISP. Not every provider offers alternate numbers, and even then, it doesn't necessarily mean you're going to get a radically different IP, as ISP's only own certain subnets. If worse came to worse, banning all subnets from an ISP could keep offenders off the board.

...and all we have to is add more numbers.

 

when we ban IP addys, we don't put in all four octaves, we leave the fourth blank. If the offender is known to try and skirt bans, we ban in this fashion:

 

123.456.70

123.456.71

123.456.72

 

and so on...
