clu
Hey people I haven't messed around with prefabs yet but I've been looking over some posts and have a few questions: 1) Are they affected by light? - will they cast shadows, etc? I remember reading somewhere in a quake tutorial that they don't but I forgot where. 2) Are the textures included? - if i create a widget and texture it with a bunch of jpegs, will the prefab and texture all be "saved" together? 3) Do updates cascade throughout map? - if I insert 100 widget prefabs into my map, then I go and alter the widget prefab, will all the widgets in my map update to the new one? Sorry to get all wordy. Just wanted to put 'em all into one post. -clu
Leslie Judge
1) Yes. Prefabs are like a normal map just they can have .pfb extesion besides .map. 2) Erm... in a way, yes. Since it is a normal map file the rules are the same for it. 3) No. They are physically inserted into your map not just as references. BTW, the idea is very good. You should send it to the GtkRadiant developers. Seriously.
clu
Cool, thank you. So I guess the textures just have to be dumped into the PK3 along with all the other assets. Yeah I was hoping prefabs could just be references that would update throughout the map. Maybe I'll drop the Radiant guys a note in their suggestion box. Anyway they still sound like a cool concept. I'm going to mess around a bit. Thanks much for clearing this stuff up. -clu
