cant get into multiplayer server

Hi, i just bought this game... and i downloaded the patch 1.04 and all... and when i try to join a multiplayer game it says "awaiting connectiong 1" then "awaiting Gamestate" and at that point it just freezes... i let it sit for 10 minutes but nothing happened, and i have to take the disc out and put it back in to get out of the game... does anyone know why? or how to get it to work? Id rlly like to know:(
