wat's a shader

First of all, there are many kinds of shader. There are fog shaders, liquids(which are basically special fogs-tinted and reduced visibility), there is one that is probably most commonly used, caulk, which keeps it from being drawn (to reduce the number of faces drawn), there is clip (multiple kinds, basically invisible walls- some block players and NPCs only, some shot only, some both). There is slick, which eliminates all friction, cushion, which you land on giving no damage. Outside, which allows for rain and snow. Block NPC/player, which prevent passage by only NPCs or only Player. There is area portal, which causes a portal to be drawn(consult richdiesal.jedioutcastmaps.com the door tutorial for purpose). There are many others, like forcefields, skies, glass, mirrors.

To answer one question, yes they can be animated (coruscant- the ships moving in the background after kejim). In the JK2 editing tools, there is shader ed, which allows you to make your own shaders- I know little of this.

Shaders are kind of special textures. They are applied to faces the same way, but many are to be applied a certain way ex. fog is nodraw on sides with water shader on top and bottom- again Rich's tutorials are good. I have no idea about terrain and ladder and about shader ed and I'm not at this time clear on mirrors, but there are threads on them.
