adding to perfume

Hopelessly stuck. I cant figure out how to add wood shavings and the flower to perfume. I dont know how to access 2 inventory items at the same time so that I can combine them. The "U-se" options are not helping me. Can any one, unambiguously, assist me with my delimma. I would be so grateful.

Highlight an item in your inventory

Push "U"

Highlight the item you want to combine it with

Push "U" again.
