background color in text, will only take a second to answer :)

hello all...well, in my name when i go to make a background color it won't work (to put it simply )...i've seen it explained two different ways:

 

the first one says to do the color twice, like: ^2^2, and it will be your background color...well, that doesnt work for me..

 

the second way says to do background color, foreground, background like: ^4^3^4, and it will be yellow text on blue background...

 

neither work, plz tell me what i am doing wrong, thanks in advance

I can only help you with one colour! make two roofs ^^, delete one, type e.x. 4 for blue, and type your name!!

im sry, i should have been more clear...i know how to make coloured names...its the background colors i dont get...if anyone could please help me, i'd appreciate it
