Help Needed - Lighting and map size with JKRadient

Lost Welshman

Recommended Posts

Hello, my first post here. I just got JKRadient from the latest PCGamer dvd.

I'm slowly learning how it works, but I just can't get the hang of lighting and room sizes. Is there anyway someone could explain to me?

I would really appritiate it, thank you.

(Wow, I started off drawing moustaches on the female skins in JO and now I can make 3d models and learning how to map, I feel clever :p)

Welcome to mapping

If you're just starting off read these turtorials and it'll get you started on your merry way to mapping.

Rich Diesal's http://richdiesal.jedioutcastmaps.com/tutorials/

Well you should select your spawn point (info_player_start,etc.) and CTRL+TAB to see the side view. This will show you how tall the player is. Then you should adjust your room sizes accordingly.

As for the lights creat a light entity (right click mouse -> select light) and view the entity properties (N). There are several variables you can set in there including color of the light. Just mess around a little to get familiary with Radiant. As a :newbie: you need to learn by doing. Besides your first few maps shouldn't even be released. Once you're comfortable using the editor plan out your map on paper and get to work. :D

Thanks very much,

I hear the Rich Diesel tutorial is good, so I will probably use that. I started off using the one off the PCGamer Dvd, because I couldn't get online, but Now I will use the others, thanks.

Dispite my amazing ability to figure things out I never really thought of using the spawn point for the map sizes, thanks.

At the moment I am just messing around linking rooms with corridors. I haven't figured out how doors work yet, I can only make ones on SP to force push open.

My first test level ended up with a light in the middle and alot of black patches around the room, but I'm sure I will become familiar with the lighting techniques.

Thanks again :D I hope to make some interesting maps.
