Peru level- How do I keep from getting smashed by boulder?

In the Peru level, I have already placed the bamboo stick into the triable hole. Now the map hint tells me to go really close by.

 

Someone earlier told me that I could now whip a shaft of light. What shaft of light? That huge boulder keeps falling on my head too.

 

Please help me out. I am ready to journey onward.
