Level 15: Pool with 6 pairs of rods & 6 struts above; just after getting 3rd machine

Okay.. just got the 3rd machine part (Urgon's) & now have to get to the opening above the opposite end of the pool. There are 6 struts which look like they can move into a position to make kind of a bridge at that level so I can walk across. I'm thinking I have to do something with those 6 pairs of rods with white balls at the end. They don't seem to respond to the Action key & I've tried hacking them with the machete to no avail.

 

So what do I do with with this stuff, or am I totally approaching this wrong? Map hint says I have to get into the shaft near there.. can see a platform at the level I need to be at but can't get there.

The machine parts are in the wrong place when you get it.

So, just try to put back a different machine parts after you removed it from the stand.
