Burrie
Hey, As some might know, I am a HUGE Expanded Universe fan. The EU Games always had a special spot for me, as they were my first babysteps into the EU. In fact, it was these earlier games that actually got me into Star Wars to begin... from my point of view, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Leia were not the heroes of the rebellion... no, it was actually Kyle Katarn(Dark Forces), Rookie One(Rebel Assault) and Keyan Farlander(X-Wing). Only when I began reading the books did I begin to get a new type of appreciation for the big Three. In any case, enough nostalagia EU references have been cropping up in the games for a long time now(Borsk Fey'la and various Shadows of the Empire references in Alliance, Cortosis and the Jedi Academy in Jedi Outcast, etc). Seeing as how Knights of the Old Republic is set in a time which has only been covered in the EU(4000 years before the Republic), this game will probably have lots of references to the EU. I would like to create this thread to point out all the EU references we've seen so far... So without further ado... Czerka Corporation One of my most favorite reference. The Czerka Corporation is a weapon developer in the Star Wars Universe around the time of the Empire. Apparantly, this Czerka corporation will play a huge part in the upcoming struggle, as they seem to have sided with the insidious Sith Empire. For more information regarding Czerka, I'll quote theforce.net... Czerka Arms this large corporation manufactured a variety of hold-out blasters, flame weapons, and handheld projectile weapons. During the last centuries of the Old Republic, Czerka sold its wares to any buyer with ready credits. However, during the height of the New Order, Czerka worked out an exclusive distribution deal with the Empire and was the third largest producer of weapons in the galaxy, behind only BlasTech and Merr-Sonn. With the fall of the Empire, Czerka courted the New Republic in an effort to increase their marketshare and presence in the galaxy. (RASB, ROE, EGW, WOTC) Okay, so they changed names... it is still Czerka none-the-less Cortosis To quote the bladed weapon section from the official site... Vibro Blade Ultrasonic vibrations make this sword exceptionally deadly, some vibro weapons are made with a rare cortosis weave that makes it resistant to lightsaber sparring damage, ensuring some measure of effectiveness against Jedi or Sith. Cortosis is a rare mineral that made its first appearance in the Hand of Thrawn duology by Timothy Zahn. This ore made the lightsaber shut down... throughout the EU(mostly games, I think), a different breed of Cortosis is used that is apparantly capable of blocking the blade of a lightsaber, probably making it the ultimate mineral for defense against Jedi Knights. Empress Teta To quote the medium armor section from the official site... Cinnagar War Suit After the Great Hyperspace War a thousand years ago, the heirs of Empress Teta militarized their world and industry, a legacy that produced battle armor still sought after today. This is somewhat of a subtle EU reference. The Empress Teta systems played an important part in the Golden Age of the Sith and Fall of the Sith Empire story arcs, which took place about a thousand years before Knights of the Old Republic. Lord Mandalore This quote from the Mandalorian Mercenary Canderous Ordo brought a huge grin to my face. He's talking about Lord Mandalore, who is the official leader of the Mandalorian clans around this era. In the Sith Wars, the Lord Mandalore duelled with Ulic Qel-Droma and finally offered his troops to the Dark Lord of the Sith. Throughout the Sith Wars, Mandalore and his troops would turn out to be a incredible enemy against the Republic. Lord Mandalore's final stand was at Onderon, where was apparantly killed by the animals on the beast moon. A different Mandalorian found the mask, and claimed it as his own : "Now I am the new Mandalore"... whatever happened to this new Lord Mandalore remains to be seen, and he was possibly killed in action during the Mandalorian Wars. Dantooine & Korriban Dantooine and Korriban are both special planets to both sides of the war, as they each have an academy for their respective beliefs. Granted, Dantooine originally had a mention in A New Hope, but it is the EU that fully developed his world. It is interesting to note that Exar Kun and Vodo Siosk-Baas are both mentioned in the biography. For those who are not aware, these are both EU characters. Apparantly, the Jedi Council can also be found on Dantooine, which is a nice nod to Nomi Sunrider's speech in Redemption. Korriban was first introduced during the "Dark Lords of the Sith" story arc where Exar Kun began to learn more about the Dark Side. [Please note that I left out Kashyyyk on purpose. The Star Wars Holiday Special, which showed this planet for the first time(with its designs used in the EU), can be regarded as 'official' and not as EU(even though it is utter nonsense)] Swoop Bikes This one is an EU reference as well... these popular bikes whom are often used by civilians were either introduced in Shadows of the Empire, or one of the very early Han Solo adventures. In any case, these are the few references I can think up as of now, and I'm probably missing a few very obvious ones. If possible, please add to the list... StarScream423
Very well done I am a big fan of the EU myself as well, however I have only seen the tip of the iceberg, having only read a few books and the EU section on the SW official site. Good job, I always enjoy reading about EU stuff, I especially love it when it causes me to go "Ohhhhhhhhhh, so that's why....." you get the idea
