Don't feel too bad about being "broke" in the sense that I've heard mim and others constantly claim to be "broke" at some point or other in game. I even have a few toons that have been/are efectively "broke". Just keep killing stuff and putting crew skill crap on GTN. I've even sized up stuff like you're describing (even when I've had 7-8 figures) and opted not to make things (or much more than 1x) if the profit margin sucks. Hell, Isotope 5 has practically collapsed in last few months. Great for implant and various other items if you craft, but to a range of ~90-130k as of last night from as much as 250k this summer. Consequently, I've felt less desire to play missions just for the basic comms (Iso-5 = 35 basics).
