My cat died, too, so I understand what you mean by it 'hitting you hard', but I didn't think it was a life altering time in my life. Though, I have had a few harsh truths shown to me. Like the party for example. I think I started becomming like your younger self, where I thought I was liked, better than I actually was, y'know, perhaps a little vain. But that party was really a mental slap that made me realise that I was changing. My friends said it was a change for the 'best', but how is it a change for the best when you don't even like yourself?

I agree... you either fail or improve if you go to college. I think most people in our college improve, though, because it filters out the slackers and the non-carers, which aids the overall 'atmosphere' in the class room. I'm going to the best non-private, non-costs-a-lot-of-money in England, so I'm quite pleased with that.
