  1. Don't kick yourself too hard! I bought it on release day (preordered) only to bring it home and realize that my machine is running Windows 7 32-bit, and the game requires at least 64-bit in order to run. Almost clawed my eyes out over the course of an entire weekend of Steam troubleshooting before I isolated the directory containing the executable and got the "Not compatible with this version of Windows" error message to confirm my suspicions. So now I'm deciding between buying it for PS4 and waiting to update.
  2. I don't know about that. I haven't heard any talk of archiving outside of the Star Wars boards, and it would be a little difficult to include the original titles under the SWG umbrella.
  3. What? You can't pin this whole rap on me! But, no, in all seriousness, if a mod is asking us to stop, we probably ought to.
  4. Never played, huh? I'm actually in the same boat. Umm...no pun intended. You're right; the place is hopping now. ^ Get it? Hopping? Rabbits? "PUN POLICE! WE HAVE YOU SURROUNDED! COME OUT WITH YOUR HANDS UP!"
  5. Yes. BTW, The Dig now holds the title of deadest forum on LF. Someone should change that...
  6. Hehehe...Trevor. Hehehe...dye packs.
  7. While I'm not sure if his death was deliberate, I'll elaborate more on that later in the post. Regrettably, you're exactly right. It's a sad day in journalism when the National Enquirer can honestly boast that it's broken stories before the mainstream media got hold of them. The age of conspiracy theories being the stuff of curious volumes you would shove on the bookshelf above your bed is gone. A lot of conspiracy theories aren't even theories anymore. I'm still shocked that so many people acted as if Edward Snowden's 2013 global surveillance disclosures were news. The federal government has been wiretapping unchecked since at least the 1960s, and probably earlier. I wouldn't say I'm unconvinced; in fact, quite the opposite: I'm completely convinced that there were questionable circumstances surrounding this officer's death. I believe that it was at least a suicide under duress. The question is, what sort of duress? Was it personal, as in the guy's fear that his career, good name, and impending retirement benefits (most police departments offer at least some, although I understand that some have done away with pension plans for officers) were about to be derailed by a criminal investigation, and quite possibly prison time? Or did some outside party have an effect on his actions, perhaps striking some sort of suicide pact with him of the sort the SS offered to Rommel when he was implicated in a plot to kill Hitler? Imagine what kind of dirt the department has on any potential whistleblowers that's keeping the truth suppressed, as well. But you make a good point. Sadly, I'd bet money that this little shenanigan will disappear from the media radar before the truth is uncovered. By the way, great to see you return after several weeks of inactivity, Avlectus!
  8. Glad to hear you enjoyed the article. Look forward to more appearing on the website within the next few days, if all goes well.

I may be picking up a Starter Kit online in the next few days. Found some that go for about thirteen bucks online, but it depends on how much the N64 accessories I need to pick up cost. Big question is, I don't suppose there's any way to circumvent the need for a physical game client, is there?

I'll be sure to do that. I'm actually planning to do some online shopping here in the next two weeks. I'll probably pick up The Dig, Grim Fandango, and certainly a copy Galaxies. Would you recommend any particular version of the game?
  11. Dug up some additional information on this story last night. Apparently, the "criminal activity" the headline alluded to was him embezzling massive amounts of money from some youth organization he was involved in leading over the course of years. Story I heard goes that he committed suicide because he knew he was going to take the fall for it. Makes sense, I mean, his reputation would be ruined, his family would receive funny looks in the streets, and his name would forever be mud. I even understand that some family rescinded a donation in the amount of $15,000 to the guy's family after the truth of the matter came to light. But here's the intriguing part: as advanced as forensic science is in this day and age, you *cannot* tell me that the cops failed to peg this fellow as a suicide following their investigation...if one was even launched. You want my two cents, I think they covered up the suicide as an officer killed in the line of duty as a PR stunt.
  12. I dunno if I'd call that cynicism or a good understanding of probability...anonymity does strange things to people, and as more people begin using the Internet for social and leisure purposes, statistically there's a greater possibility of hostility with the advent of more users. Irrelevant, but somebody could cite that if they ever need to write an analysis of Internet subculture...
  13. So your problem is resolved? Stick around and become part of the community. You'll find that it has a lot to offer, and big things are coming.
  14. Alright, so I noticed a few discrepancies between your earlier dxdiag dump and the specs you last reported. How did you transition from [OS] Name=WinXP Version=Windows XP v5.1 build 2600 Service Pack 2 Service Pack=None Status=Pass to this? Windows 10 Home 64-bit AMD A8-6410 APU with AMD Radeon R5 Graphics 1600 x 900 3,312 MB On a game as old as KotOR, you've got to expect some serious problems in attempting to play the game on such a new OS. I should also add that Windows 10 is still in the early stages of development; the paid version hasn't even hit the market yet, so there are bound to be a few kinks in the process. I know for a fact that Windows 7 sucks at emulating older games, even with compatibility mode on. I would recommend downloading an older OS that's no longer supported (such as 98 or XP) that is KotOR-compatible and running the game that way. Most non-supported operating systems for Windows are now legal to download, as they fall under the abandonware umbrella. That would be a good first step. In addition: [Video] Video Card Name=AMD Radeon R5 Graphics Video Memory=4096 Desktop Resolution=0x0x0 DirectX=DirectX 9.0c (4.09.00.0904) OpenGL Version=4.5.13399 Compatibility Profile Context 15.201.1101.0 OpenGL Vendor=ATI Technologies Inc. OpenGL Renderer=AMD Radeon R5 Graphics ATI Driver=(null) Vid Card Status=Warning Vid Card Driver Status=Fail GL Status=Pass DX Status=Pass Looks like you've got some driver issues after all. Your ATI driver seems to be missing, your card itself may need a closer examination, and the card driver itself failed the diagnostic. *EDIT*: I also recommend downloading and installing any official patches for the game. Someone else is bound to have experienced similar issues in the past.
  15. You aren't trying to use a recording program, perchance, are you? FRAPS is known to crash KotOR games upon cutscenes, and there's the opening credits right after character creation. I presume you're using a physical copy of the game, not a pirated or Steam version? Can you tell us where you bought the game? Cross-reference your video specs with those listed on the back of the game case, as well as update your drivers. Alternatively, rule out that problem by choosing to play one of the available cutscenes from the "Movies" section of the main menu. If you're able, then your machine is KotOR-compatible and the problem likely lies in the game itself.
