  1. Hope this helps... I'm running a dedicated server on an Athlon 750 (768MB PC133). With TPS set to 15, two people and 10 bots it's fine. TPS 20 and 30 are unplayable even with one person and fewer bots. This box also runs my mail, web, ftp, etc. So the SWBF server doesn't seem to be a major cpu hog. It even seems to use significantly less CPU than Battlefield Vietnam.
  2. A data point from outside the curve: I'm running a dedicated server on an Athlon 750 (768MB RAM) and had to set the TPS to 15. At 20 there were weird warping issues; at 30 it was entirely unplayable (connecting with an Athlon XP2000, 1GB DDR266, nVidia 5600 Ultra 128MB) Strangely enough, at 15 it's quite smooth. I haven't measured the client performance with any tools but I'd have to guess that I'm getting far more than 15fps. This box also runs my mail, web, ftp, etc. Based on my experience and what I've read in the forums, it looks like TPS is for data frames not video frames - and my poor little server doesn't have power to push more than TPS 15. Also noticed that SWBF seems to use significantly less CPU than BFV.
  3. If you're using "Direct Connect" to connect to the server that's probably where you're running into problems. After a couple hours of testings, a buddy and I have come to the conclusion that "Direct Connect" will only successfully connect to a "Direct Connect" server (using Direct Connect/Create), but not a LAN or GS server. Still trying to figure out if it's possible to launch a dedicated, Direct Connect server :\ woof
  4. A buddy and I spent a couple hours yesterday testing the different connection options and we were unable to connect to any server using Direct Connect unless it was created as a Direct Connect server. So, nasty comments about why the developer(s) thought this was a good idea aside, the question remains - how do you start a dedicated, Direct Connect server (or connect directly to a LAN server without going through GS)? (I currently run BF servers in LAN mode so they aren't advertised - with ports open/forwarded people have no problem connecting directly) woof
