I've found a great way to meet new people and gain experience is to form hunting parties at the cantinas. I don't go hunting much anymore except for the Squill caves and the Krayt dragons (if we can ever find them). Now I spend most my time doing BH missions and trying to level up my pistol and LLC skills.
