Crashes on the first G*dd*mned level. (JK2 SP)

So I try to start the game. I'm patient--I wait until the cinematic goes. Except that, once the ship rounds the planet, and the game goes from that to the models of Kyle and Jan talking, the game out and out freezes. Every time, illegal op. I'm running Windows XP on a 1.8 ghz p4. This crap didn't happen on my old ass P3 600 running Windows 98.

 

Any help is appreciated. This is driving me CRAZY.

 

EDIT: I do, believe it or not, have a legitimately purchased copy of the game. So don't be all, "OMG BURNED U SUK BUY THE GAME."

What video card are you running? What sound card? Do you Have EAX enabled? Do you have the latest drivers for your video and sound card? Are you running the latest patches (1.03 and 1.04). Do you have the graphics maxed out? how much Ram do you have?

In order:

GF4 MX 440 (I'm poor)

Realtek AC97, I guess. Came with my computer. I've never cared about my sound card.

I tried it with EAX both enabled and disablded. No difference.

Yeah, latest drivers.

Yeah, latest patches.

 

Graphics slightly above the middle, I guess. Makes no difference--the level never loads. I've tried it on a normal level instead of the opening cinematic, and it crashes right when the loading bar finishes.

 

384 MB RAM.

 

I read somewhere that having save files from another comp (I saved mine from when I switched comps, as the game is on the D drive, which is now on this cmop) can screw it up, but that shouldn't carry over for the Jedi Academy demo as well, right? This is really driving me nuts, because I am dying to play that demo, and I miss Outcast as well.
