FLaM-DraG
I just got a new GeForce FX 5600, but the drivers that came with it are version 56.. I noticed a long time ago that the detonator drivers make the performance worse as they get 'newer'. The best ones I have found are 33.10, but unfortunately they don't work with the 'new' video cards. Does anyone know if any version of detonator drivers will work with the GeForce FX or does FX have their own special drivers? I noticed some detonators say they won't work with FX and others (older ones) don't say anything about the FX. I've got 1024 MB of ram and the 5600 Ultra and my FPS is always around 40 in JK2 or Jedi Academy
Silent Bob
Go to guru3d.com and go to the download section and get the 52.70 drivers. They work fantastic on the fx cards.
FLaM-DraG
I've tried all the drivers (from 52.70 down to 45.23) and it seems I get the best performance with 45.23. EDIT: Silent Bob, since we basically have the same specs, what kind of frame rate do you get on the SP level "t1_surprise". It's the level where you have to find the droid from the jawas? The main spot I'm talking about is the end of the level outside that big jawa vehicle (Can't think of the name). For the majority of that level, and that spot, I get 35-40 FPS which seems kind of bad.. Also, online, when there's a lot of lightsabers showing (not fights/sparks necessarily, just lightsabers even) my frame rate drops pretty low. I installed the 52.70 drivers and the performance is about the same as the 45.23. EDIT AGAIN: Holy ****! I just tried HALO with these new drivers and my FPS went from 25 (at 800 x 600) to a clean 60 at 1024 x 768 with MAX settings! Thanks Bob. :)
Crow_Nest
the 52.70 doesnt even improve my JA. Its like its still the same. How do i fix this. (if there is a way)
FLaM-DraG
Well my JA didn't improve at all really either... Go into dxdiag and go to "display" and make sure 'AGP texture accelearion' is Enabled. If it says 'not available' that means your AGP isn't working.. That's what I found on my PC was slowing it down. Silent Bob
Yeah I get about 30-60 in all areas of map's, it doesn't really bother me. My settings for JA are at 1024x768 4AA x 8AF Dynamic glow off and a long list of other tweaks in the config file. I think it runs good. If I set the AA at 8 it stays around the 20-30 mark. Also Flam turn off your dynamic glow in MP that should help with the saber problem.
FLaM-DraG
My dynamic glow is already off... I turn it off anyway, it reminds of the glow of light you get from dirty contacts or smudged glasses.... Drives me nuts
Silent Bob
Well, the 53.03's came out. check them out in the forum section of guru3d.com. Got alot of improvement with games, little bit better frames in JA, Max Payne 2 smooth as hell with all details maxed.
FLaM-DraG
I got decent FPS in Max Payne 2... Maybe a little 50 FPS every now and then (big time battle scene parts).. Other than that, constant 60+. I'll give them a try. The way I 'test' the drivers is on the Fairy demo that came with the video card. EDIT: Well I installed those new drivers. My FPS on max Payne 2 is about the same.. It was good anyway with max settings.. My FPS on Jedi Knight on MP seems much better. However the FPS on SP seems a bit slower and the FPS on Halo is about the same. Any of the changes are extremely slight, so it's probably all in my head anyway.
