Kauyon
Ok, put simply, my game freezes at random times (noticably during saber combat, mostly in duel servers). Is this just my comp being really slow at loading new animations..? Or is this another example of a rushed game?
Coraith
Have you tried lowering your video settings to suit your computers abilities?
Coraith
btw, another thing you may want to look at is your virtual memory settings. They need to be at least 600 MB.
Kauyon
ok... look at this seems fine.. I know my graphics card is a little outdated, but Im upgrading to geforce 4 pretty soon. Any solutions for now?
Chuahtemoc
try restarting your comp, first of all. if that doesn't do it, try reinstalling.
Kauyon
restart my comp? -.- the game freezes, if it doesnt unfreeze within 30seconds, it's screwed, n' restarting is all I can do. Reinstall? been there, done that, got the t-shirt, burned it. anything else? sorry if Im a little blunt, but that's the way I am, brutally honest. Chuahtemoc
run defrag on that archaic hunk of metal you call a computer, then. or, buy a new one. add more memory or something. do anything. (this may be better posted in the tech forum btw)
StormHammer
Try any/all of the following... 1. Set all graphics to minimum settings in the game. In other words, turn everything off, and set it to 640x480 res. 2. Make sure EAX support is turned off. 3. Turn off Force Feedback under mouse/joystick settings. 4. Make sure your graphics drivers are up to date. 5. What possessed you to get Windows ME? I know some people have problems with WinME and running some games. 6. Make sure there are no Mods or anything in the Gamedata/Base directory. 7. Make sure you don't have lots of little utilities running. Turn off ICQ, MSN, any anti-virus applications, etc. Strip it down to the minimum required to run your machine. Then try running the game. If it runs okay on the lowest possible settings, try gradually turning things on again. As others suggested above, defrag your hard disk - no harm in doing that, and it might improve performance slightly if the files are fragmented at the moment. Chuahtemoc
Anytime, man, that's what the tech center is for. Here's a good way to keep a check on your memory. Go to: Start>programs>Accesories>System Tools>System Information One of those wondows will come up, and on the left, it'll have a list of options you want to look at, and on the right itll have a gray box that says "Refreshing...". Once that box is refreshed, There should be a whole list of Computer stats, etc. You know. What you want to look at is: Total Physical Memory Available Physical Memory SOmetimes, when they get older, computers tend to eat up memory for no apparent reason. For example, If you have 512 mb RAM in your comp, and you restart the computer, check the Sys Info. I have a prob where my Total Physical Mem is 512 mb but my available mem is always like 260 mb, even directly after restart. Since your comp is older, budget your memory and keep an eye on that Available Physical Memory. Off a freshly restarted computer, JKA tends to take about 150 mb of RAM, which is gigantic, but that's after playing for like 2-3 hours. This number, obviously, varies depending on the time you spend playing and the speed of your processor. There are two remedies for your comp eating RAM like it's no one's business: 1) Get new RAM, and 2) Defrag. Often times, the latter simply won't give you back everything, because alot of Windows-based programs tend to eat memory without cleaning it up once you're done. If you're not the techy kind of guy, imagine it like this: You have a five-person family, and you each eat five meals a day (unrealistic but hey). If you all always eat at the same little table, and dont clean up your plates when you're done, then your table will be crammed with dirty crap and you'll be out of plates. In the same way, the comp gets lagged down by the weight of programs that haven't been "cleaned up" properly, plus the memory isn't regained once you're done using the program. I hope this helps you understand why memory gets eaten up and that defragging your comp, or getting new mem, leads to crashing big memory-eating programs like JKA. Glad I could be of help!
