darkdreamr
Hi all... My total jedi war just got on jk2files.. check it out if you havent yet... it was my first map ive ever made.. and its gotten decent reviews.. (minus some missing textures) I wanna go full force this time.. add some more elements to the game.. or atleast make the map a little bit more of the eye candy fun that the first one wasnt... I need to have a theme for the next TJW.... ive played around with the hoth idea.. but.. in the long run.. hoth is just too big of a map to make.. draw distance is a major problem.. as well as making mountains look decently real... so i think im gonna scratch that idea... Now im kinda stumped though.. i need a map thats large.. and surrounded by walls.. but its gotta do it with taste.. and it has to be able to be decently sized to put the mini ties into..... I have an idea for the bases... Give them more of a gothic feel.. with alot more to go through.. mabey even a few underground tunnels/vent pipes to sneek through to get to the flag... i want the bases to be much larger then the first TJW.. the outside is my concern though... i need a good theme. large buildings just arent going to cut it this time.... If i could only surround my grounds easier with mountains.. or mabey i could do buildings this time.. just add a little more detail.. anyone wanna help me with this?? please?? D. Druid Bremen
Lol. It just happens that I'm making a gothic map, so I'm researching Gothic details and their architecture. If you ask me, the first thing that popped up in my mind after I read your post was: A large rectangular map. A gothic city. 2 large buildings ( I first thought of cathedrals ) at the opposite sides of the map. Now, the buildings' details. Add large, elaborate arches. Add flying buttresses. Find models of gargoyles and put them in the cathedrals. Research. Well, I don't know how you're going to do all this, especially the research part ( for I had a really hard time doing it; all the websites I saw didn't list a lot of Gothic features ) , but if you manage to pull this off, it would be a great feat, and IMO an awe-inspiring map. If you want, I can help you out. ( At least, I'll try )
GothiX
Gothic architecture is quite easy when you studied it thouroughly.

GothiX
Luckily, I've got school for that, as well as a library.
darkdreamr
the only problem with making something extreemly elaberate is it leaves little room to make a large map... i dont have the best of computers.. and for some reason when my map reaches a certain point when compiling large maps.. it will not compile.. i dont quite get it.. it gives me a number in brackets .. and if it goes over like (15000) it wont work... (i think thats the #) i was thinking of gothic like insides of a building.. however.. the outside is a problem.. see... when makign a large map.. if you have something in the center that doesnt completly close off part of the map.. i think it will cause the part of the map to draw.. when you dont want it to.. hence the reason why you cant go over any of the buildings in TJW.. I talked to someone yesterday.. he gave me a decent idea... but i dont know how to pull it off ... have 2 routes... one for space ships (into space to travel to another planet) and one for walkers, atsts and swoops (via stargate type warp) and have the alot of the walking battles/fights apear in a warp like zone to the other side.. using water as a special effect on the walls to make it look like a warp.. of course the space area will be quite blank except some asteroids or mabey even nothing at all.. mabey some landing spots for people who wish to man a very small platform to take hold of a gun turrent. and 2 areas indicating an approach towards the enemy planet.. possibly a wormhole warp? if this sounds like a good idea.. i need to find out a few things... how to make warps in space so if you hit a boundry.. you end up on the other side.. (like KOTOR flight school) is it wise to make a warp split into 5 - 6 zones to avoid warp kills? (for walk in warps) i was also considering adding a little bit of the matrix theme into it.. make the weapon rooms completly white.. mabey the flag rooom resembling the matrix lobby scene.. complete with pillars that chip away with damage.. i dont know.. its a bunch of little thoughts in my head that i need to compile into a good idea.. thats why im asking for help.. i appreciate all i can get BTW.. if you look up catherals on yahoo.. theres actually quite a bit of pics.. even sometimes a map layout of the churches.. Wtf, my school doesn't even touch on gothic stuff. Well, lucky you. I'm trying to find out the special points of Gothic architecture.
