Two years ago I started making an add on campaign pack for XWA. I want to finish it but I desperately need help with the storyline! I have it all decked out but I'm still a newb to the massive storyline. I want all of you to take a look at this and make it as accurate and plausable as possible. I've already made the missions for it and I really want to entertain suggestions on what to change in my storyline. It's pasted below. Please copy and paste this in an e-mail to me with the appropriate changes. You all know alot more than me. Who was I kidding to even start an XWA campaign? But what's done is done and I might as well finish it with the best story possible. Hope you all can help. And here's the two year old behemoth of mission story:

Bleh, what was I thinking 2 years ago? x.x

Battle 8 “The Emerging Threat” Introduction

It is twenty years after the Battle of Endor. The New Republic has long since been established and during that time, the Alliance Command HQ has constantly been playing a game of cat and mouse with remnants of the Empire over territory and installations. Most of the New Republic’s initial success during the pivotal first three years was due to captured Imperial starfighters that were taken after Endor.

The Empire, however, still does present a valid threat to the New Republic. Not by rogue Imperial warlords as the New Republic believes, but by one high ranking Imperial Moff whose key duty it was to reunify the Empire – Grand Moff Volf.

Before the Battle of Endor, Emperor Palpatine personally placed Volf aside as a fall back position. If the Empire failed at Endor, Volf’s key duty would be to reunify the Empire, eliminate any remaining Rebel presence, and to restore the Empire’s grip of terror on the galaxy. Anticipating the Emperor’s rebirth, Volf kept a low profile. After the Empire fell, it took Volf six years to successfully reunify the remnants and resources of the Empire. Volf spent the last four years slowly increasing the Empire’s strength and numbers. His goal, along with the rest of the reformed Empire, is to crush the Rebellion and retake all of their lost territory. Volf’s presence, however, has been a mystery to the New Republic. The New Republic has no knowledge of Volf or that the Empire has been reunified. It is still under the impression that the Empire is in the control of Rogue Imperial warlords...an impression that Volf has been very careful to maintain.

The New Republic, however, isn’t blind. It has been keeping a close eye on recent Imperial activity by leading constant strikes to hinder their buildup and launching a campaign to accomplish three goals:

1. Permanently eliminate the remaining Imperial presence in the galaxy.

2. Determine the truth as to who is running the Empire.

3. Find out what the Empire’s intent is and eliminate that threat.

1. Battle 8 – The Emerging Threat

a. Mission 1; Destroy an Imperial Shipyard

i. Description

(1) Third Person

(a) Alliance Command HQ has ordered the entire fleet be put on full alert after recent Imperial buildup. The [CRS Aquiel] has been dubbed the command ship of a recently formed task group for the beginning campaign against the remnants of the Empire.

(2) First Person

(a) Because of Imperial buildup, your first mission will be rather simple. Your objective is to destroy an Imperial shipyard and all of the outlying disabled starcraft. Intelligence reports of only light station defenses so be careful. You will be flying your own personal [TIE Defender] which we have outfitted for you.

ii. Debriefing

(1) Success

(a) Nice work taking out that shipyard. That's one less we have to worry about.

(2) Hints

(a) Target the shipyard’s shield generators and take them out to save time and space bombs.

iii. Briefing Tags

(1) Your primary objective is to destroy the shipyard.

(2) Various TIE starcraft lie disabled around the yard. These are also to be destroyed.

(3) A squadron of TIE Fighters is expected to patrol around the station.

(4) There is also a small platform nearby. It probably holds reinforcements.

b. Mission 2; Raid an Imperial Convoy

i. Description

(1) Third Person

(a) The New Republic gets wind of an Imperial supply convoy traveling through a neighboring sector. Lead a raid and steal the convoy’s cargo.

(2) First Person

(a) Long range sensors have located an Imperial convoy traveling in a neighboring sector. It consists of various transports. It also has an escort consisting of various TIE starfighters and an Imperial frigate. You will be in charge of Y-Wing group [Gold] during this raid. Your primary duty is to disable those freighters. Once all of the freighters are disabled, our own freighters will hyper into the area, take their cargo, and then return here. It is up to you to protect them if any reinforcements should arrive. B-Wing group [blue] will be providing you with cover. In addition, a pair of our commandeered Imperial [Missile Boats] have been assigned to take out that frigate to keep you clear.

ii. Debriefing

(1) Success

(a) Good work handling that convoy. Those weapons and computers could later prove useful.

(2) Hints

(a) When Gunboats show up, be sure to eliminate them. Their orders are to take out our convoys. They are armed with proton torpedoes so keep them out of firing range from our ships.

iii. Briefing Tags

(1) Blue Group will neutralize the convoy's escorts.

(2) Your flight of Y-Wings is responsible for disabling all of the convoy craft.

(3) Once the convoy is disabled, our own freighters will hyper into the area and steal the cargo.

(4) During the mission, our flight of Missile Boats will take out the convoy's frigate.

(5) Your flight of Y-Wings, a full squadron of B-Wings, and a pair of Alliance Missile Boats will hyper to the nearby convoy.

c. Mission 3; Rescue a New Republic Spy

i. Description

(1) Third Person

(a) Kasan Moor, a New Republic spy, uncovers stunning information about the Empire while on Dantive IV. She is ambushed by an Imperial Interdictor during her return to the Aquiel. Lead a rescue mission into a cut off star system.

(2) First Person

(a) One of the New Republic’s best spies, Kasan Moor, has fallen under attack. Our reconnaissance probe has indicated that a newer [Dominator-class] Interdictor has entered the region and blocked entry to hyperspace. The use of such a rare and expensive Interdictor can only mean that the information she is carrying is extremely important. A-Wing group [Green] and Missile Boat group [Red] have been dispatched to the region. Your primary objective is to protect Moor’s shuttle from any fighter attack while the Missile Boats take out that Interdictor. Make sure she gets to the [Aquiel] alive.

ii. Debriefing

(1) Success

(a) Outstanding performance. Kasan Moor's information has proved extremely valuable. She has learned that the Empire has been, in fact, reunified. Reports on the Empire’s leader are still unknown. This is going to raise extreme concern at Alliance Command HQ. She has also discovered that the Empire is stepping up starfighter production in one of their four main plants.

(2) Hints

(a) Get to the TIE Cyclones before they can reach the shuttle. The shuttle is basically a sitting duck with the Interdictor in the area.

iii. Briefing Tags

(1) Your flight of A-Wings will proceed to the Dantive System and escort the [sHU Gunar] back to the Aquiel. Missile Boat group [Red] will be joining you for any capital ships you encounter.

(2) Once in the Dantive System, protect the [sHU Gunar] until it can make its jump to hyperspace.

(3) Our probe data has indicated an interdictor in the system. This will prevent any entry to hyperspace. It is to be driven off or destroyed, if possible.

(4) Two full compliments of [TIE Cyclones] are making a run for the shuttle. Stop them from reaching their target.

d. Mission 4; Destroy Imperial Starfighter Facility

i. Description

(1) Third Person

(a) Due to Kasan Moor’s information about increased Imperial starfighter production, Alliance HQ dispatches [CRS Aquiel] to destroy one of the Empire’s main starfighter plants.

(2) First Person

(a) Based on Kasan Moor's information about increased starfighter production, we have been dispatched to destroy a TIE production plant in the Tylapha Sector as well as all of the outlying disabled starcraft. Reconnaissance has determined that the X7 factories have been internally modified to serve as starfighter construction plants as a form of camouflage. Leave it to the Empire to forget about the outlying starfighters which are dead giveaways. The area itself is very heavily defended so you will be flying TIE Defenders. We’re putting you in charge of TIE Defender group [Gold]. You will be escorted to the Imperial facility by B-Wing group [Red]. B-Wing group [Green] and A-Wing group [blue] will be responsible for neutralizing the stationary defenses.

(b) When the mission has been completed, protect the Aquiel as its fighters return to the hangar and follow it home. Once you are safely at the task group, depart via [bASE Valiant]'s hangar.

ii. Debriefing

(1) Success

(a) Now that one of the Empire's lead TIE production plants are gone, this should hinder their starfighter production.

(2) Hints

(a) Try to destroy the Container Hangars first, as they supply several waves of starfighter defenses. Destroy the hangars, and you'll be getting rid of dozens of reinforcements.

iii. Briefing Tags

(1) Your flight of [TIE Defenders] will destroy the four starfighter plants.

(2) B-Wing group [Red] will escort and cover you from any starfighter opposition.

(3) B-Wing group [Green] and A-Wing group [blue] will take out the [Gun Platforms].

e. Mission 5; Defend Bacta Plants

i. Description

(1) Third Person

(a) In response to the attack on the TIE starfighter plant, the Empire leads a counter attack on one of the New Republic’s Bacta plants. Lead a group of X-Wings to defend the facility. The New Republic sends a fighter squadron to defend the facility.

(2) First Person

(a) One of our Bacta plants reports that an Imperial frigate has entered their system. It is likely that the Empire has staged this attack in response to our previous victory. Take X-Wing group [blue] to defend the facility before the frigate has a chance to launch its starfighters. The station’s light defense force will be launched to give you cover once you arrive. Your main objective is to protect the Bacta tanks from the gunboats. The Processing Plants are cheap to manufacture and are expendable, but the Bacta is priceless. After the frigate’s compliment of starfighters is eliminated, attack the frigate. The frigate must be driven off, destroyed if possible. Once your mission is complete, we've made accommodations for you to depart via the cargo facility's hangar,

ii. Debriefing

(1) Success

(a) Thanks to your efforts our Bacta facility has been saved. Nice work!

(2) Hints

(a) The gunboats are your main priority. Their mission is to destroy the gas containers and the processing plants. The TIE Advanceds are only assigned to protect them.

iii. Briefing Tags

(1) One of our Bacta plants reports that it is under attack. The facility carries four Bacta processing plants.

(2) Each processing plant has four sets of pressure tanks full of Bacta. The Bacta is vital to our medical systems.

(3) Once your group of X-Wings arrive in sector, the station's security force will accompany you.

(4) The Imperial strike force consists of an Imperial cruiser, two flights of Gunboats, and two flights of TIE Advanceds.

(5) All of the starfighters must be destroyed. The cruiser must be driven off or destroyed.

(6) Once the mission is complete, depart via [C/F2 Bertucchi Station].

f. Mission 6; Safeguard New Fighters

i. Description

(1) Third Person

(a) After learning of the Empire’s reunification, Alliance Command HQ orders that the [Aquiel task group] be outfitted with more modern starfighters. Lead a patrol as these new fighters are delivered.

(2) First Person

(a) Because of our recent discovery of the Empire’s reunification, Alliance Command HQ has ordered that our task force be outfitted with more modern starfighters. Among these ships are the:

1. T-66B T3 X-Wing B

2. BTL-S3 Y-Wing

3. FreiTek E-Wing

4. TH-96-B K-Wing Multipurpose Assault Bomber

Both the new X-Wings and Y-Wings will replace our current versions. The E-Wings and K-Wings will be used for more heavier duty assignments. The [ESC Hope] will drop out of hyperspace in our sector. It will then ferry the new fighters, one type at a time, into the [Aquiel]’s hangar. Your assignment is to patrol the area as the new fighters are delivered. At least 75% of each new starfighter class must survive. If any Imperial opposition shows up, your main duty is to protect the new fighters.

ii. Debriefing

(1) Success

(a) Good work on securing all of our new fighters. We’ve analyzed your ship’s targeting computer for data on the unknown fighter you encountered and discovered that it is of Imperial origin. Not only that, but the ships themselves are armed to the teeth. We don’t know when the ship was designed or how long it’s been in use, but we’ll have to investigate this matter further.

(2) Hints

(a) Don’t worry about protecting the new fighters. The TIE’s only want the Escort Carrier.

iii. Briefing Tags

(1)

(2)

(3)

(4)

g. Mission 7; Outer Rim Reconnaissance

i. Description

(1) Third Person

(a) New Republic probes in the Outer Rim Territory discover a small portion of what seems to be the newly rebuilt Imperial fleet. Lead a reconnaissance mission to confirm this report.

(2) First Person

(a) One of our probes in the Outer Rim Territory has discovered a small Imperial armada. The Bothan Spynet believes that the mysterious new leader of the Empire may be in this sector. Your duty is to inspect any and all capital ships you encounter. Don’t try and play hero...This is not an attack mission. You are authorized to fire only if fired upon. You will be flying this one alone since the Empire does not consider a small one man fighter to be any threat.

ii. Debriefing

(1) Success

(a) Your discovery of the Empire’s new leader is priceless. Now that the jig is up, Volf knows that playing his charade of warlord rule is now useless. We’ll have to observe Imperial activity more closely to see what their next move will be.

(2) Hints

iii. Briefing Tags

(1) One of our Outer Rim probes has detected a small Imperial armada. The Bothan Spynet has informed us that the mysterious leader of the reunified Empire is believed to be in one of these capital ships. Your duty is to inspect each of them and report back to the Aquiel.

(2) Several classes of mines surround the small fleet. Be very careful of them.

2. Battle 9 – The Smoke Clears

a. Mission 1; Uninvited Guests

i. Description

(1) Third Person

(a) Volf, infuriated that his secret is out, orders the invasion of the Bothawui system.

(2) First Person

(a) While on a routine visit to the Bothan home world, an Imperial invasion force has entered the system. We have ascertained that their objective is to occupy the orbiting Bothan space colonies and star system. A Bothan Golan One lies at the edge of the system, but is too far out of weapons range to assist. The Empire has left the station alone, not considering its weapons range to be a tactical threat. [TIE Gunships] with [TIE Defender] escorts have been launched to disable the colonies. Our long range sensors have also detected inbound [Assault Transports]. They will most likely arrive when their targets are vulnerable. Your main objective is to defend the colonies from becoming disabled and destroy any [Assault Transports] that show up. Our task group’s elite [Wolf] and [starLifter] squadrons are being launched to take out all of the Imperial capital ships.

ii. Debriefing

(1) Success

(a) Thanks to your efforts, the Bothan colonies have been saved. The Empire lost many ships in this battle, but without an exact tactical analysis of the entire Imperial fleet, the losses of this battle could be inconsequential. Borsk Fey’lya sends his personal thanks to the entire crew of the Aquiel for our assistance.

(2) Hints

(a) It's hard to stop the colonies from being disabled, so try concentrating on the Assault Transports when they arrive. Try to destroy the Assault Transports before they can dock with the colonies. If you destroy the Assault Transport s while they are docking, the explosion could take out the colony.

iii. Briefing Tags

(1) While on a routine visit to Bothawui, an Imperial invasion force has entered the system. To combat the Imperials, we're scrambling all of our fighters. TIE's with escorts are attempting to disable each of the Bothan colonies.

(2) [E-W Gold] is responsible for destroying the Imperial starfighters.

(3) Our task group's elite [Wolf] and [starLifter] squadrons are tasked with engaging and destroying the Imperial starships with [K-W Green] as their cover.

(4) X-WB Group Blue will provide additional fighter support.

(5) A Bothan Golan One lies at the edge of the system but it is too far out of range to assist. Instead, it is launching fighters to assist the rescue effort.

b. Mission 2; Looking Beyond the Smokescreen

i. Description

(1) Third Person

(a) After the discovery of Grand Moff Volf and the reunified Empire, the New Republic shuts down Kuat Drive Yards.

(2) First Person

(a) Since our discovery of Grand Moff Volf, Allied Intelligence and the Bothan Spynet have been working together to search for any civilian businesses that have been secretly helping the Empire while operating under the New Republic. We have found one such company. Since the New Republic was established, Kuat Drive Yards reformed from manufacturing ships for the Imperial factions and shifted its business focus to the civilian market. Since our discovery of the reunified Empire through the help of the Bothan Spynet and Kasan Moor, Alliance Command HQ has learned that Kuat Drive Yards has violated the New Republic’s corporate anti-trust sanctions by secretly supplying the Galactic Empire with new spacecraft and weapons.

(b) Our task group has just been assigned with shutting down [Kuat Drive Yards] at their main offices in the [Kuat System]. Two of our fleet’s other task groups have gone to shut down the company’s remaining branches in Fondor and Gyndine. Our main objective is to disable all of the yard’s installations and starships. We will also board their communications relay and search for anything of value. Once Kuat Drive Yards is taken over, we will secure the system until we are relieved by another task group.

ii. Debriefing

(1) Success

(a) Excellent work everyone. Kuat Drive Yards has been totally shut down. Notice has gone out to all deep space of our installations that any remaining Kuat Drive Yards freighters and convoys are to be considered hostile and arrested on site. Unfortunately, a large amount of capital ships at the other three locations fled shortly before our attack forces arrived.

(b) Regretfully, we were unable to shut down the Empire's other lead ship manufacturer, Sienar Fleet Systems; nor are we aware of any secret manufacturing sites that Kuat Drive Yards could have in Imperial space. After the battle of Endor and extremely loyal to the Empire, the company moved to what was left of Imperial Space and resumed its operations. We've uncovered very valuable data from the shipment logs we discovered. It seems that one of several very large shipments of vessels was sent to Imperial Space five months ago. Among them, were two newly produced Super-class star destroyers. Our task group that shut down the company's branch at Fondor has confirmed this. It looks like Grand Moff Volf has a new command ship... and an expendable ship of devastation at his hands. The shipment log was very unclear as to the exact location of where the ships were sent, but it is somewhere in the remnants of Imperial Space.

(2) Hints

(a) After the fleeing craft from Kuat's defenseless Golan station appear, you will have roughly three minutes to disable all of them. Keep in mind what the [Jamming Beam] is best used for.

iii. Briefing Tags

(1) Our task group's main objective is to disable all of Kuat Drive Yards' installations.

(2) Our cruisers will concentrate their firepower on disabling the Golan station, where Kuat Drive Yards has incorporated their main offices.

(3) Your group of E-Wings will provide fighter coverage for [Wolf Squadron], who will be disabling all of the facility's installations.

(4) A pair of B-Wings with A-Wing escorts will disable the communications relay, which will be searched for anything of value.

(5) Any craft fleeing from the Golan station are to be disabled.

c. Mission 3; Holding Down the Fort

i. Description

(1) Third Person

(a) With Kuat Drive Yards now shut down, the Aquiel Task Group waits for Admiral Dunn’s task group to take over their duties.

(2) First Person

(a) Now that we’ve successfully seized Kuat Drive Yard’s main installation, we will be holding the area until Admiral Dunn’s task group arrives. Imperial forces may try to recover any capital ships at our yard. If that happens, make sure none of our newest acquisitions go anywhere. You will be patrolling the area along with E-Wing group Green.

ii. Debriefing

(1) Success

(a) Now that Admiral Dunn’s task group has arrived, we are now freed up for more pressing duty. We will not arrive at Coruscant for another twelve hours and we will find out our new orders then.

(2) Hints

Well, my main concern is the timeframe.

20 years after Endor when Vector Prime happens and NJO kicks off with a bang. By then the Remnant is so small and weak that it's pretty much harmless, even without the peace accords signed in Hand of Thrawn (or was it Unions?).

I'd be more inclined to set it at 5y after Endor, just Before Thrawn became active, and have a note after the final mission that NRI thinks Volf was actually a front man for someone. Say that when Volf's flagship was destroyed (off-camera), the survivors made a surprisingly orderly withdrawal under the command of the ISD Chimaera.

It'd be perfectly in-character for Thrawn to have a big, high-profile ship and crew appear to be doing all the legwork while the Chimaera sits quietly on the sidelines and funnels orders through Volf.

Your briefing might also wanna explain why your flying a TIE Defender in B8/M1. Oh, and by the time Endor is finished, Sienar is technically "Santhe/Sienar" (there was a merger with Santhe Security Systems)

Aside from that, it looks very well-done. Good writing!
