Sunslayer
Has anyone found a program that can open either of these two filetypes? I tink MDL is the model, while MDX is more of a supplement to it, and should be able to be easily converted to 3ds, MAX, or whichever(3ds would preferable). So if anyone is interested, join me in this search!
Sunslayer
It seems Quake used MDL files, so did Half-Life, but the programs don't open the KOTOR MDLs. I've found a few more programs to try, though, so expect an update soon. Update: I hope everyone else doesn't know that Bioware already has a mdoel viewer, along with a modified one I found: http://www.augustweb.com/~anim8r/html/closet_tools.htm
Shimaon
oei... we're gonna have to deal with this every time someone joins... We do not have any clue as to where to begin with the mdl/mdx format. MDL is simply an extension, it is used in TONS of games, for example, Quake, and Neverwinter Nights. The two actual files from both games are not similar at all, and we're yet to find anything that IS similar... HOWEVER... IF Jade Empire comes with modding tools, it'll probably help us out since it seems to use the same engine as KotOR, and will probably use the same MDL format. Sunslayer
My point is that we should MAKE other viewers work, and that's what I'm working on, with any help from others. I know it's common, but it should be able to be forced into a viewer somehow...

arthurh3535
I belive the MDL files are a tweaked type of file that Bioware uses. NWN uses MDL too, but they have probably changed enough that any tools for that aren't going to work. KOTOR uses a much higher polygon count and a uniform body w/ head AFAICT. But that may give you a starting point to adapt/develop tools from.
Shimaon
Oh... I thought Jade Empire was ONLY on PC, heh.

Sunslayer
Still haven't found anything that works.... and I know it's because although there are many MDL files, they have special internal coding that specifies what they do, behaviors, etc., so only owkr for one game (and it's model viewer). SO I'm wondering if anyone here knows much about programming and could make a 3ds to MDL and MDL to 3ds convertor? That'd be really nice...
