dufflover
I just double checked at FileFront: my first music mod is uploaded for people to try. Just remember that it was originally supposed to be a private home test project. Also keep in mind that it's only supposed to make KotOR sound *different*, rather than better. Well, one thing I am sorta proud of is the Star Forge "Duel of the Fates" music. If you find the other music boring, skip to a Star Forge save game, or if you don't have one, just play the mp3's/wavs: streammusic\mus_area_sforge.mp3 (area, explore) streammusic\mus_bat_slehey.mp3 (battle music) streamsounds\mus_sbat_slehey.wav (transition) Post comments/questions here! Edit: This section of this post will show the latest version but you will have to read the rest thread for details: - Base original mod + (12-03-2004) Created Update1, you will still need original http://files.filefront.com/2152933 (original version, still needed as base) http://files.filefront.com/2306756 (update1, readthru)

I tried making the mod work with the override folder but it wouldn't work (it would be the original music). So it had to go into the same folders. Extract the files to your KotOR folder. The Zip file should have the directory structure in it. The only file NOT going into streammusic or streamsounds is a renamer. Instructions: 1. Download the file (duh!) 2. Extract to your KotOR folder. eg: C:\Games\SW-KotOR *it should not overwrite any files. if WinZip or whatever asks you to replace a file, hit NO 3. You should now have two music files with the same name but different extension, eg. filename.mp3 and filename.wav 4. In the main KotOR folder there should be a new EXE file. Run it 5. A window will come up with two buttons: Rename, Unrename Rename: Click this to rename the original files and install the mod Unrename: Restore the original filenames and music THERE IS NO DETECTION IN THAT PROGRAM. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU DON'T CLICK THE SAME ONE TWICE IN A ROW, OR ELSE YOU'LL HAVE TO GO INTO THE FOLDERS AND FIX UP THE NAMES. Notes: - If the MP3 and original WAV file have the same name, the WAV will be played by the game. That's why the renamer changes the name. When the WAV is not there, it looks for MP3 extension. - In the STREAMSOUNDS folder, you will find the music files for transitions (battle->area music). These files are interchanged. Tianhou_Zhong
it says "Run-time error '53' : File not found" when I press Rename or Un-Rename! Now I can't change my music back! Help!

Now I can't change my music back! Help! OK, so maybe I should've put more effort into that renaming script. Just remember that NO ERROR MESSAGE is a good thing. If there is an error (ie, the above), best bet is to restore to the originals (manually), then run the VB program again to rename TO MOD MUSIC. How to fix (restoring all originals): + Steammusic folder Make sure all wav files are named right. They are either something like: mus_area_sforge.wav OR mus_area_sforge.original.wav if the name has original in it, rename it so the original is no longer there. It doesn't matter if there is an MP3 file of the same name. mus_area_sforge.wav will override mus_area_sforge.mp3. The only exception to this is mus_area_ahto.wav. When in normal un-modded state, the two files should be: mus_area_ahto.wav , and mus_area_ahto.mod.wav + Streamsounds folder This is a little harder. In the un-modded original music state, the two names should be: mus_sbat_whatever.wav, and mus_sbat_whatever.mod.wav .mod. is the mod music file. Hope that fixes it for you. Just remember, the VB script DOES NOT delete any files, so if you get an error, you don't have to go re-installing.
dufflover
Apology Don't worry, nothing serious has happened! I just want to apologise to people who may have for an instant gotten worried that I screwed up their KotOR audio files.

Darth-Ra
In case you weren't aware, if you rename all the files in \streammusic with the names credits, evil_ending, mus_area_*, mus_bat_*, and mus_theme_* from .wav to .mp3 the game will play them still, so there may be no need to rename an mp3 file to wav. At least it works for me

dufflover
I've got a feeling there might be some people on slow connections who want to try the music mod but don't have the time to download the entire mod with all the tracks. If people want, I can upload a Star Forge / Duel of the Fates only pack which should stay reasonably small. Post your interest here and I'll put it together
Kaewan
I would try it if it wasn't in FileFront. FileFront = Bad Connection for me
dufflover
UPDATE 1 I had some free time from Uni homework, so I decided to make the renaming program for the mod a lot a better. I've also added 2 new tracks and changed 1. Renamer: I've made the program so it loops through a list of source filenames and target filenames. Before renaming source->target, it will check to see if the source exists (ie, see if "file not found"). If a file is missing. it will report the filename that wasn't found, and give the final name required so you can rename it yourself. It will just move onto the next file. It also tries to detect whether the mod is enabled or not. If the test passes, one of the renaming buttons will be disabled, so you can't tell it to enable twice and end up getting a page of errors. If it fails (there is a file missing), it will recommend an option to take which should generate the least errors (ie, # of manual renames). If you stopped using the mod because of renaming problems, I urge you to try again with this newer version! Edit: I also changed the icon to a Bastila icon, no reason. mus_theme_malak.mp3: This track is "The Emperor's Arrival" (or something like that) mus_bat_malak.mp3: Because of the new Malak theme (music before the final fight), I've adjusted the "The Final Duel" track to cut-to-the-chase. mus_area_acad.mp3: The Dantooine Jedi Enclave music (NOT the 'outback' track), is now the Jedi Outcast Force Theme. I posted this just after the upload request to FileFront. Seems to take about 1/2 a day for it to accepted and I'll post when it is ready to download, but you can have a look yourself to see if it's up: Edit: File is up and available - http://files.filefront.com/2306756

dheer
Hey I dig the update. Much better choice for Malak IMO. BTW, I love your theme but I do have a question. Why did you put it in the Documents and settings folder? You have to manually browse for the theme file. You could place it in C:\Program Files\Plus!\Themes or the C:\Windows\Resources\Themes folder. Then they would show up in the theme selection screen of Desktop properties.

I made the Malak battle while I still had it installed but I did this update without KotOR installed (yes, risky but you guys are saying it works). ie, I haven't seen how it sounds ingame! Theme: I didn't want to get all fussed with detecting where your themes are and stuff like that. For instance, my desktop computer doesn't have a Plus! theme folder. It's not my fault: the theme file demands absolute full paths...I guess that path was just a compromise. I guess nonXP users would have a useless Documents and Settings folder now... dufflover
What do you people think of the Star Forge/"Duel of the Fates" music? I'd post a poll but well, I can't seem to!
dufflover
I'm thinking of replacing the Republic theme, which I think you only hear twice, with the Pirates of the Caribbean theme. But I don't know what the filename is for it (I don't have KotOR installed). I'm guessing it's music_theme_republic.wav but it might also be "rep" or "repub" as well. Can someone post the filename? Lundquist
you're very close, it's: mus_theme_rep.wav
dufflover
Update is coming soon! Besides from the new Republic theme music, I'm thinking of putting in a short cut Across the Stars, and also moving the Dantooine battle music to Kashyyyk, since it sounds good but was not used since there was new Dantooine music. Any other suggestions?
dufflover
The battle->normal transition on the Star Forge with Duel of the Fates has a file name bug. The mod renamer calls it "streamsounds\mus_sbat_sleyhey.wav", when it should be "streamsounds\mus_sbat_slehey.wav" (no extra y). Anybody using this mod? If no one's using it I won't bother updating the EXE (or including the other new music track)
