Astrotoy7
Yup. Im a Final Fantasy fan. In fact I bought a GC(2nd hand off ebay of course) just so I could play RS 2 and 3 and FF CC.... The announcement that FF was returning to Nintendo was an unusual one, given that there was some bad blood in the past between Sakaguchi-san(FF creator) and Nintendo..... As a result FF7 came to the ps1 and gaming has never been the same again..... FFX was a platform designed to show off the ps2s abilities. FFXI enjoys a moderate amount of success, but as it is a MMORPG requiring a high-end system, is not readily accessible by many FF fans, who are chiefly console gamers..... OK. I had read mixed reviews about this game.... but I was perhaps just too biased not to get this game and give it a go myself....... Here's just a quick overview for anyone curious about this title.... Graphics & Sound Amazing - I really dont know much about the Cube's graphics capabilities, apart from the fact that it uses ATI hardware.... But FFCC is just superbly presented, a little reminiscent of the 'fairy-tale' style of FFIX...(which is my favourite FF title). The moogles are ultra cute, you even get to paint them different colors(this does have a purpose!!) Gameplay - I have played KH very little, but what did impress me what the accessability of the commands, much easier than the scroll and find of the traditional FF games..... This is sort of similar, Using the L and R buttons you scroll through commands Attack, Defend etc. An interesting thing here though is you have a customisable command list, where you can add things like phoenix down or magic stones.... the magic stones can be used indefintely(no MP points) but you do lose them at the end of each "level" But they are pretty easy to come by, usually picked up after dispatching an enemy..... The 'battle' system can, for want of a better description, be described as hack n slash, in a similar way to KH I guess. Attacks can be focused for maximum damage, and that is generally the way you have to do it, you cant run around slashing and expect to get anywhere in this game..... The magic commands are done in a similar way.. namely pressing a button will activate a reticle where you can aim your attack. Story - More in the vein of FFIX, FF Tactics and the earlier FF games, so if you arent a fan of the fairy tale and knights and dragons type of story then FF CC may not be for you.... and no, there are no aeons, Eidolons or GFs that I have come across ! Customisability - what is FF without customisability.... Yes, even in FF CC, you can design characters form different tribes, different professions and different outfits all pertaining to that characters ultinate abilities. It is actually *very* interesting that in SP, if you have 8 characters of the different job types on your memcard you actually have access to shops and merchants which you usually wouldnt. In your campaign you can interchange between each character in your caravan... Multiplayer - Finally a multiplayer FF !! yes, it is a bugger that you need a GBA to play but if you are lucky enough to have friends w GBAs it really is an amazing experience... Im not gonna blab on about it too much, except that it is excellent requiring teamwork and verbal communication to get things done ! Connectability - Yes, you need the GBA to play MP, but you can also use the GBA to help you in SP ! You have a moogle that follows you around, and as I mentioned above, it can be painted ! Depending on what colour you paint it the GBA` will give you different info, like a terrain map, a treasure or monster radar etc !! Minigames - Yes there are mini games - available in MP mode, but I havent even tried these yet ! Conclusion - Dont be too swayed by reviews you may read about this game, if you are a FF, KH fan I would say that you should definitely check this out. For FF freaks, there is a definite FF feel to the whole thing...eg a major boss I just fought was a huge 'Marlboro'.....! MP is excellent if you are lucky enough to gave at least 2 GBAs at your disposal..... If anyone else has played this game - let us know what you think..... mtfbwya
