saber color editing question

I don't thinks so? After seeing your post curiosity got the better of me, and I went and tried it for my self. I took an existing blue crystal selected the with a circular selection on a new layer I used the radial gradient tool 98%black to transparent from the center out made a new layer. Dragged it down to cover the original. Went back to the original layer selected the little white line copied it on a new layer at the top inverted it to black. Went back to the gradient blend I made for the glow selected it created an alpha out of it.

 

The result a faint bluish glow of the geometry of the 4 sides of the blade a little strange if you ask me.

 

Then I though what if I invert the alpha?

 

The result was a pin like blade in the center and almost no glow. Once again almost completely transparent faint bluish glow this one was a little better but no black.

 

But some of the textures have black the only thing I can think of is. In a 3d program when modeling you need at least one light source if there is no source the stage is black and you can’t see a thing. If the game engine treats sabers like lights then that makes sense. You can't really have a negative light so I guess no back sabers not like the ones made for JkO and JKA

im pretty sure someone already did a black blade , i think it was the same one who did the elite forces mod and the joinable yuthura ..

"Black lightsabre is here! There is some graphical glitches in this mod though. This mod will replace the normal violet lightsabre into black lighsabre. If you do not have the violet sabre, you can get it through cheat, the command is "giveitem g_w_lghtsbr05"."

 

you could possibly use the graphic for it , asking gameunlimited first of course , then make a new lightsaber point to the graphic , you would have to rename the graphic though so its not the violet one if you want a new seperate black saber

Basically, the .txi files assigned to the lightsaber blade textures make any darkness in the texture appear transparent, specifically, the "blending additive" line in the .txi file. To change that and make a black lightsaber:

 

1) Find the blade color you want to change, for example w_lsabregold01

 

2) Write the texture to TGA using Kotor Tool and TXI converter, or create a new TGA file with the same dimensions and name.

 

3) Create a new text file and open with notepad. Type in "decal 1" without the quotes.

 

4) Save and rename the file, along with the extension, to "w_lsabregold01.txi"

 

5) The game will now recognize transparency in the .tga file as, well, transparency, and black, as, well, black.

 

6) Retexture at will.

 

 

Oh and BTW, yellow = yelo

 

EDIT - Got a small screenie up, whipped up the texture in about 3 mins. Far from refined, just demonstrating that it can be done:

To all you modding greats,

 

Since one of you have managed to get a black saber with any-colour glow. How about directing me to do a black saber with white glow. as well as a white saber with black glow? I did make a forum thread about the same thing, few weeks back. T7 replied to me. I still have yet to thank him yet. But I thought I should see if I can get anthing from this particular thread first.
