If you have ever wanted do dig out that copy of Doom, Heretic or Hexen, but haven't. I have just found a good reason to, jdoom. It uses the doomsday engine to update the graphics with dynamic lights a so forth you can even download a 3d model pack to replace the sprites. I found it on http://www.doomsdayhq.com. You need an origonal .wad file to run it though.

Yeah, I've got JDoom and Doom Legacy. Boom is another one. There are quite a few updated flavours for those old games - and I agree, they look a lot better. Personally, I'm not fond of the model updates, so I stick with the sprites.

Don't forget Tenebrae for Quake either - with some of the hi-res textures and models people have worked on, it breathes new life into the game.

And AFAIK there's a fan-made engine update for Duke Nukem 3D.

Maybe things have changed since I first downloaded the model packs, then. I just remember the zombie grunts looked a bit silly...

I'll have to give it another whirl... ;)

Well the Zombie grunts don't look that good, I do like the fact that all the monsters get injured now with blood on them or with cracks on the skull.

I tried that Quake one, couldn't get it to run smothly at all though, and I have more than the minimum sys rec, It did seem better than the origonal though.
