Druid Bremen
I'm not very experienced at lights, so here goes: How do I make the lighting in my map look like its in a volcano? In other words, I'm making a volcano map, and I want the lighting to look realistic. Does anybody know..?
RoxStar
Use the lava texture and shader forund in the .pk3 from korriban and see how that works .
Druid Bremen
... No, I've already done that. What I mean is the lighting, to give it atmosphere. Surely it won't look realistic if you simply place a few default lights around the map. It would simply be a bland container of lava, if you get my meaning. If anybody knows the right way to do this (besides adding lava, I've already done that like I said), please tell me. Thanks in advance.
RoxStar
Oh OK, gotcha. Look for a good shader tutorial. I reccomend this you would want to use the lava texture and make the texture glow some I assume? I would suggest that you add a small layer of black fog over the lava if it is a single-player level. If it is a multiplayer map then use this and instead of making a sky use it to make your lava "glow". But I might just be babbling so you could just wait here for someone more experienced than I to come.
GothiX
Well, a lava shader with q3map_surfacelight >7000 would be a good place to start, and if the vulcano's opening is visible from the inside, use a skyshader with q3map_sunext, with a 70-80 elevation. lauser
Agreed Gothix. Is glow a better option or can you place lights and then color them if it's just a smaller area? Druid, you are aware of how to color lights? Press K.
GothiX
q3map_surfacelight kind of owns pointlights.
Druid Bremen
Err, actually I wasn't meaning lava. I know how to use lava and all that. What I actually mean is the light entities. I'm not sure what shade of orange/red it should be, and I don't have the time to trial and error.
Shadow_stone
well then... Its really all up to you to decide. IT kinda is trial and error, and depends whats the atmosphere of ur map (im guessing its night right)
