ZinC°hda
Hi to everyone my names Ryan. Just wondering whether anyone had any kind of info regarding how the servers will run. I for one hate games where you have to install the game on the remote server to host games or worst still have to buy two copys so you can play on one machine and host on the other Lets just hope they go down the same route as Battlefield games and provide some kind of server side software huh ? Anyone have any intel ? www.HiredDigitalAssassins.com
tFighterPilot
As far as I know, it will be through gamespy.
ZinC°hda
I think you got the wrong end of the stick dude. I mean the software which hosts the actual server. Example :- BattleField 1942 had a seperate bit of software which ran seperately on a remote computer/server. Basically meaning you you dont have to load the game up on it to host your own server. Call Of Duty didn't come with any server side software which meant you had to buy two copys of the game to play. One for your machine in your house and one for the server box located where ever it is. I have a PC at my house in Bristol uk Server is in a warehouse in London. Hope that clears up the confusion
tFighterPilot
From my experiance with gamespy, you can host in the same computer that you play in. I'm really not an expert in that area, so don't take my word.
Stingray
You are right, tFP, you can indeed host a game on the same computer as on which you are playing (at least with most games, and if not dedicated). However, the question was if you need/'can have' other software that is dedicated solely to hosting and managing a server. So would you need the entire game to host a server for SW:BF, or would some server-software be enough for only (!) hosting a server? ps: I don't know... Lt. Havoc
I believe he's meaning a client and server version of the game. For instance the server version might only be 64mgs while the client could be 1.2 gigs. The server version would merely run a dedicated server thus not needing all the sound and graphic files. It makes it nice when wanting a dedicated server to not have to jump through all the fancy hoops in the retail game to get the job done. The dedicated server version is usually a very "no frills" windows setup. No intel for you pal but I hope they have it.
