Space - What's possible?

Okay I'm really hoping that Battlefront can be modded into a space game much like X-Wing vs TIE.

 

Does anyone know if it's possible to have space maps? Say you spawn in capital ships and launch from them? I guess set it so if you exit the mag-com field you instantly die and disable landing?

 

Is it possible to have more complex flight, controls and features? Such as rolling and shield routing, s-foil positions, cycling shots, maybe even locational battle damage? such as reduced speed as a result of losing an engine?

 

I know the tools/sdk aren't out yet, I just want to hear some speculation, and/or if anyone is interested in seeing this. With what you've seen so far from editing maps, and what we know of the engine, would any of this be possible?

Well from what Ive seen on the inside out, the ships will never have sensor/damage areas , a ship will always be a whole unit taking and giving damage, the way the engine used them now, it would be a major rewrite to add ship location specifics like that.

 

The space maps will come but 1st you have to understand that the engine wont allow for a map to get too large, there are caps on things already for vehicle amounts not even related to faction etc.. these are memory max related specifics. Dont look to this game for a huge sony galaxies type space adventure even post editor.

 

The physics engine is lacking so I dont think you will see many updates from LA for rolls, fancy space flight, in the engine, there are only about 5 things different on each flying vehicle and there mostly view/cockpit/cannon/ related. Have you noticed the movement on most any vehicle is cookie cutter:) well it is...

 

Long story short , this is a locked down game engine that at best will deliver modded niceness such as seen from BfV and BF42 modding but dont expect a new space flight game/or major conversion that will bring a star wars battlefront rebirth.

Hmm...do you think it's possible for us to add new units in? or do we have to mod pre-existing ones only?

 

Just played an hours worth on Monk's House, they run Bespin 24/7 and have increased fighter spawn points, so it's mostly dogfighting. I noticed the Repulic and X-Wing are far superior to the CIS and TIEs.

 

I'm a little disappointed with the X-Wings lack of shielding. Even though it's already pretty powerful, it's a staple feature. Would it be possible to add something like the Droid Deka's shielding to the X-Wing? Lower the X-Wings HP so without shielding it's pretty vulnerable?

 

Maybe lower the recharge time on the TIEs weapons or increase their handling/turning? CIS maybe Enhanced Targetting (since they're being controlled by a droid ship), give them a targeting retacle like how missles work?

 

As they are now the two ships don't stand a chance against their counterparts.

*** The way files (mission.lvl) checks for what is to be included in any given map makes it rough right now at least to add more units without overwriting another unit, im sure in the next few days/weeks I can figure out additional spawn points, moving everything around on the maps and adding vehilces and units but for now anything you add to any map must replace another unit and they must be usable by one of the factions, i.e. you cant pull cis ships onto a map that only has imperial and rebel faction forces , im sure some more investigation can alter this but give it a few weeks.

*** The ships handling (which is a speed and turn radius function) can be edited , as of yet , they send us to the god of desktops, but im sure soon this will be a common mod, shield powers, reinforments, any numerical admin'd option will be changeable, in all.ll and common.lvl alone I see damage adustments, choice of what weapon any thing from a unit to a turret is actually firing, meaning you can swap powers, damage and even the muzzle, sound and such for ANY thing that is player equipped/entered.

 

The 1st major downloadable mods out will most likely be hoth maps with new backgrounds, altered weapon appearance, sounds swaps,altered power from weapons and buildings(turrets) totally relocated vehicle spawn points, a larger map in the Y axis, (longer) and changing the entire snow floor peice to another floor tile , maybe endor.

we (UE mod) are going to try to implement space combat, but like kingguru said, the g=fighters aren't anythin special.... it won't be anythin like xwing vs. tie fighter, but it would still be fun.... plus they need to correct alot of the errors in the fighters contorls/movements, before we can have decent dogfights and reality to a fighter!

Now that flying caps can be removed, dogfights and those types of maps are possible. Right now I can add tons of ships and fly non stop on several of the maps. Not as high as I want but x,y, you can fly literally forever (but you eventually leave the scenery and and are in "deep space" which is all black. lol
