Why automatic S-foils?

Greetings, pilots...

This might be silly, but... Why did the programmers add an automatic function to the S-foils on the X-wing and B-wing? I know that it might be comfortable, and useful too, but this function totally spoils those scenes from the films, you know when the flight leader says "lock S-foils at attack position" or something similar and the foils on all the fighters opens at the same time...

On the Star Wars homepage it is written that the S-foils is opened for combat to make the ship more moveable, but closed afterwards for stability or something like that... Does anyone know if the XWA-upgrade team is going to do something about it?

Woooops, this became quite much...

Problem is that in the XWA engine there is no 2-modes for any fighter. YOu cannot have S-foils open and get certain stats, nor can you close he S-foils and get differenat ones.

we woudl if we could but, that is why we need the source code

In the game Rouge Squadron, the s-foils live up to 50% of what they are supposed to do. If you close them, you get more speed and handling. If you open them, you can fire your cannons and go a little slower. But still, the AI doesn't want to close the s-foils on there craft.
