i dont want to piss any hardcore T/I pilots off, but im a newbie and was wondering what makes an interceptor better than an advanced. advanced has shields, which can make it faster than a squint (i think), and it can carry warheads and is within a couple points of being as manueverable as a T/I. so why do you see fewer advanced being played on the zone and being mentioned in the forum?

also, does anyone know a good site that has stats and decent comparisons of the playable craft

thanx

well...uh.... THE T/I looks better biggrin.gif

actually, a lot of piolits don't like to mess around with shields, and no piolit would use a T/I to go against a T/A or a T/D.

this site used to have comparisons of fighters

First of all, the T/I is pretty simple, and easy to fly

YOu have 4 lasers, and a T/I can also be taken out with a single shot. Also, in a 1v1 match. The person that is usually not hosting has a MAJOR advatage. I ahve seen one player barley break even in a game he hosts, and then beats his opponent on the opponenets host 20 to 2

There are not many things you have to worry about, it pretty much is a game of luck, and lag to win a 1v1 match in a T/I

That is tone of the reasons why i hate it so much

Also the fact that you can get about 2 to 3 times the number of kills in a T/I then in a shielded craft

Real pilots fly X-wings =)

I think I know one advantage with a T/A against a T/I. Drain all of the T/A's shields so you got the edge of speed. Or just drain shields to lasers. But still, you have to screw with it and by the time you get it right, you're dead.

im curious as to what you mean about messing aruond with controls till youre dead? at the beginning you set shields -2 and you hit 200(with beam-2 and lasers +1). i would say straight off thats a pretty big advantage and its doesnt take alot of brain power. also, if youre in the middle of battle just by hitting "'" with youre pinky you saved some armor. the real point of this article was just because i was curious if there was a valid arguement for using t/i's that i was missing. but everyone ive talked to has said they thought it was more fun to play.

to each his own, i just wanted to make sure i wasnt missing some huge advantage.

Well the T/I is one of the best fast and manuverabe craft without being in munchkin teretory.

The T/A is too good for real pilots. It is considered a newbie craft just like the T/D. I prefer

the T/B for same craft melees. It's slow speed gives you some time for nice manuvers in

a FFA or 2vs2 game. X-Wings are even worse than T/I in same craft melees. They are bigger

than T/I , less manuverabe with a similar speed. This means that the connection quality is

more important here because it is hard to dodge fire with an X-Wing when the lag is bad.

Now I'm hardly the greatest pilot of all time and I don't think one fighter is better because of any given reason, but SPEED is not a good thing in a fight. The only thing speed is good for is getting to or getting out of the combat area. That's something that you don't have to do in XWA at all (I mean like IRL where you have to fly 50 miles and get there at a certain time so you have so much time over the target, etc.) Speed only makes you take big wide turns that take a long time to do.

I prefer to use chunky fighters like the Preybird. They can turn pretty tight when you get down to a 1/3 on the throttle.

I have to agree, high speeds are only good for having to get to or out of somewhere fast. If I have a fast craft that is default and you have to fly it, 1/3 throttle gives an edge to manuever ability. I usually turn with 1/3 and then when I get to the position I want I throw it back into full throttle.

Oh and by the way, THIS IS MY 50th POST!!!

In response to K_Kinnison: really? I've always found that the host has an advantage. I usually play much better when I host compared to when I join a game!!

Though playing on the Zone is a crapshoot for me. I usually play with friends in the area with all of us on cable modems and it's absolutely superb. Minimal comm. errors.

I depends. In a 1vs1 the client has an advantage and the host has an advantage in 4+ player games.

speed unimportant? are you guys high or what? smile.gif seriously though... come on! you don't really like to fly slow ships do you? yeah, you may be able to turn a little better since a preybird's 1/3 is much lower than say, a T/D's 1/3, but come on. fast ships can just ravage slow ones. what do you do when you've got some fast ship on you and the pilot hits 'enter'?
