Guest Bounty Hunter15
Too bad you can't fly a star destroyer or something big. Yeeeeeeeeeesssssss, big. ------------------ leaving school thats a paddle'n, rowing a canoe, you better believe thats a paddle'n.
Guest Marril
Flying big things sucks anyway. I tried it... only got one REALLY rapid-fire cannon. Manouvrability bites, too. Oh, and the ISDII has a... deranged... cockpit...
K_Kinnison
FYI if you use the shipflyabel patch, you can use the Turrets, liek you would on a CORT< defensive fire, or autofire and the "cockpit" would be at the center of the ship. Since they have no cockpit, cept the default one, and there is no location for the POV. So you are actually INSIDE the ship looking out towards the nose
Guest paulbarnard
yes. but my question would be how to fire the super lasers on things like the death star and eclipse class ssd's.
K_Kinnison
I am not sure, but i think they would work the ame way as any Turret, jsut with a very low rate of fire. "Commder, target that X-wing squadron, fire at will"
Guest Bounty Hunter15
I can see your point about low manuverablity but still isn't it fun to have no enemy able to destroy you right away like the TIE fighter? I don't think it would be very fun using the death star because you would just sit there and fire every so often, right? ------------------ leaving school thats a paddle'n, rowing a canoe, you better believe thats a paddle'n. Guest DarthHulkster
Too bad Zaarin didn't make a TIE experimental with a superlaser. It would have to be a small superlaser that could only destroy maybe something as big as a SD. but wouldn't it be a nice surprise to see all of these TIEs launch from a SD hangar, activate their superlasers and take out a whole fleet of calamari cruisers in one sweep? Guest paulbarnard
I think size to power differential a Fighter wouldn't be practical. It just couldn't generate the power (not with out being really slow and needing a couple of squadrons to escort it). Now, an Assualt Transport or some other ship of that size (ETR, CUV etc), may be practical. The troop carrying part could house the energy source needed to generate the power. Even though Star Wars is fantasy/science fiction (whatever term you use) still has some physics to it. ------------------ Paul Barnard aka Bad Monkey Knight Watch Shipping Corporation knight_watch_2000@yahoo.com

Guest samboe
HMMM... How about this... since the Death Star's super laser is a series of beams that converge into a single beam, how about an array of modified ties or even something larger that are linked electronicly (think borg). They could fly individually, but when it is needed they all converge on a position, form up, and become emitters for the large weapon. This way, no one ship is responsible for that large power source and the enemy doesn't have a single target to lock onto...
Guest paulbarnard
but it brings up the obvious question, what happens when one of those ships is destroyed before it can form up?????
K_Kinnison
actually when either the DS or DSII fired its Superlaser, the smaller beams were used to aim the laser. Noticed how they formed a Cone like object before the big beam came out. Sort of a big giganit Tractor/Beam Focusing lens.. thats what it is called that disk shaped thing.. a focuse lens. In the book "Darksaber" by KJA it goes into this in a bit more detail
Guest Zraii
The Superlaser in XWA is only a BACKDROP or something. I have read and downloaded how you can add a superlaser, dont remember where i downloaded it and i dont have it anymore. All i can say is that the superlaser thing aint that easy as it sounds. /Zraii ------------------ "Control unruly portions of the Galaxy through a fear of force, rahter than actual force itself." ---------------------- http://opt.alliacehq.org
Guest JC_DeadEye
The DSII is a backdrop. The superlaser is not a backdrop.
Guest samboe
(continuation of silly theory) Ok, perhaps a large number of these mod-ties are sent into battle, but only a few (5?) are needed to complete the weapon. Then they could converge, fire the weapon, and disperse only to reform somewhere else with different ties. read: very powerful weapon that is not centralized and therefor not vunerable to a point attack. Actually I had the impression that all the beams converged on a single point and then there was a discharge from that point once there was enough energy accumulated (I'll check the movies later). Perhaps the dish supplied a force like an EM pulse that focused and released the beam. Then all that is needed for this weapon to work is a central ship (tie or other) to focus the beam (most vunerable part of the system)...
