sketch42
can the NWN Script Generator by Lilac Soul be used for kotor?? if Not can it be modified (with Lilacs Permission) to work with Kotor?? this would be so much help to scripting newbies like me to help get more familiar with scripting
RedHawke
No... that NWN compiler cannot be used... you have to use the one by HazardX for KOTOR. This question and many more, about scripting in KOTOR, can be answered right here in the Scripting Forum for tutorials and links to downloads on scripting and the creation and compiling of scripts in KOTOR. I know you want to just jump right in and do things right now... but you should really take the time and explore the different sections of the forum here, you will find these sections can answer a host of your questions, just like this one. This forum is far more organized now in comparison to when I first came here, and finding things now is a breeze. I hope this helps!

[begin EDIT:] what i posted isnt a compiler ... its a generator.... it writes the nss files basically..... you still have to compile the scripts [/end Edit] i know that the forums are organized.. but sometimes i just cant understand things and i need to actually see them in place before i can apply them.. so i just want something that i can use and than do a breakdown of how it did that... i feel sometimes when i cant get something right away .. i can usually get it by breaking down an existing one testing it and so on... and with a script generator i can test infinite amounts of scripts.. maybe im slow but this sometimes is the best answer for me for a way to learn... not looking for an easy way out ... just another way to learn.. RedHawke
Originally posted by sketch42 i know that the forums are organized.. (Edited For Space) ... just another way to learn.. Unfortunately there is no other way to learn scripting in KOTOR. It would be nice to have things like this, but this is KOTOR... and with no "official" support from Bioware we don't have all the fancy tools for KOTOR that NWN has. Hence, there is no such thing as a script generator for KOTOR. And that one you asked about won't work because NWN has some very different function calls than KOTOR does. You will just have to either; expiriment on your own, browse around the forums for script information, or download a mod that has a source script that does something near what you want, and alter that to your requirements. Or lastly, like I have done several times when I'm really stuck and have exausted the other options, you can ask in a thread something akin of "How would I write this script?" post what you want to do, and the people here in the know, including myself if I can, will certainly answer and give you a script that you can alter and compile. (Darth333 and tk102 have helped me a ton of times!) Unfortunately there is no way other than trying things out on your own, deconstructing what other modders have done and trying variants, to do what you want to do, later on as you get familiar with the scripting language things will come easier. Just an FYI: Most all of KOTOR's function calls are in a file called nwscript.nss, use this file as a sort of scripting guide. Thankfully with the massive efforts of Fred Tetra, HazardX, tk102, and Cchargin it is getting easier to mod KOTOR all the time.
tk102
And vinniemc made a nice version of nwscript.nss in Word and HTML format here, and I use it all the time.

I used this Script Generator to make a spawn script because the examples I've found here didn't work exactly the way they should for me. So I would say yes, you can use it for KotOR. Even it doesn't work everytime, at least it can point you to the right direction.
