ReTexturing Question

Hi all, another newbie for you :)

I can feel you joy :p

I have successfully changed some texture on a Tatooine module by placing the modified TGAs on the override folder: now, I know it's impossible to edit existing areas or create new ones from scratch, but my question is if there's a way to edit the texture file assignment in a fixed layout/module, IE if I can re-assign a texture file to an object or another (or wall, or floor, or single parts of em).

I've tried to explore the .are .git .ifo databases, but I've found nothing related to this...

?

It sounds like you want to retexture an area without it overriding the original, If so then in this case you can do this But you will have to Hex edit the Area models. This is very simple to do if you have a ton of time. The problem comes in determining whats what when hex editing the model with new textures.

You can use gmax and load an area model into it to find out which textures are where but that doesn't really help the situation.

edit: after you succesfully edit the models you will want to make them unique so then you will have to rename all the models, edit that area's layout file those are the .lyt extract all the lightmaps for that area and rename them to match your edited area model(if you don't do this the area will appear Black) and finaly make you new module file to match your new area models. In paticular the .are and edit the rooms nod to match the area rooms in the layout file. then pack it as a mod and you done.
