[TSL] My first attempt at reskining - Handmaiden's clothes

Thought I'd start with something simple, so I deicded to make a dark version of Handmaiden's clothes. Just a basic recolouring, but I was pretty pleased with how it came out, so I though I'd see what the experts think. And ideas on how to make it better are most welcome :)

I'm still reading all the tutorials and trying to work out how to make it into a proper item, but if anyone wants the skin just say so :D

Nice job.

You are well on your way bub. The red lines are well done, they stay in proportion the entire time and create a nice effect.

The color is a little drab, which is my biggest complaint with 99% of what Bioware and Obsidian have done. I don't like clashing bright colors, but I do like brilliant colors that have depth. If that makes any sense.

Anyways, good job for a first try, hell... good job for a 5th or 6th try. Keep at it and I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Looks pretty good man. Feels good do have your own "something" in the game doesn't it? :) I was all excited my first mod...lol Keep up the good work.

As for the making it unique item...hee hee hee

When you get it you'll slap yourself its so simple man. When someone told me how I almost fell out of my chair...LOL I had spent HOURS trying. A very respectible modder on the forums helped me out and in literally 3 posts and 10 minutes later I had my finished mod completed.

I'd recommend THOROUGHLY reading T7's tut on how to make a unique item. It helped me through most all of mine.

Thanks for the comments and help guys :D

But I'm a little stuck

I've got the basics of creating items from the tutorials and made myself a couple of things but I'm not quite sure how to get my version of HM's clothes as an item. The original ones aren't an item in their own right - instead they seem to be a special model that gets applied when you give her clothes (am I right so far?). Hence I'm not really sure how to make them into an item...Any ideas? If possible I'd like to make it so they can be worn be a female PC as well as HM....

On a side note, I whipped up a quick reskin of the padawan robe. Pretty simple and not the most inventive colour scheme, so I wouldn't be suprised if it's been done before, but hey, I like it :D

I sorta got stuck on that part there man. ChAiNz had me seeing salvation again in two posts so its pretty easy. Let me see if I remember.

OK, you know the .uti file you extracted? You need to edit that .uti file. Here's what I did: Open the .uti file with Kotor Tool.

(make sure you have the newest version) I changed the following: Template ResRef, Tag to my name (say bob). Then pick a number between say 40 and 240. Type that number in your: Texture Variation field.

Click on the Properties tab and edit the properties as you see fit (keep in mind that "huge" skills on items make the game easier). Then click on the description and describe your item. Being very discriptive makes your item more believable.

Click Save and save the file with the name you entered in the Template ResRef and Tag fields. For this it would be bob.uti.

Now go back out to the .tga file that you edited and change the name of the .tga file's last numbers right before the .tga in the file name to your number you thought up and typed in the Texture Variation. Zip up up and your done.

As for the male/female thing. Simply change the names of the robe. Change the "f" to a "m" and put both copies in your zip.

That should get it to be a unique item and then be male and female. To get that one you'd do a : giveitem bob

I think thats it

:) Moderators and Pros correct me if I'm wrong

I understood that much (so you didn't have to write all that out :p - but you've described it very well, so I'd point anyone who doesn't understand at your post :D ). The problem is that I don't know what .uti file to use for HM's clothes, as the original version isn't an actual item...
