Is model replacement possible?

As sort of an exercise in modeling and modding for TSL I decided to make a new "skin" for HK-47 as IG-88 from ESB. I don't really intend for it to be a "mod" but more a proof-of-concept for other ideas such as the M4-78 restoration project which would involve adding original meshes into the game. Plus I think IG-88 looks a lot more badass than HK-47

 

So assuming I can get a decent model of IG-88 whipped up, would it be theoretically possible to replace the mdl's for HK-47 and replace them with mine for IG-88? I know the actual process is much more complicated than that but I just want to make sure what I'm doing is even possible so I don't waste my time. Cheers,

cchargin has said it might be possible to use replacer to replace the meshes of the games droids with a new one. It would be done in a similar way to how lightsaber hilts are replaced.

 

So you would have to plan your new droid out based on replacing the parts of a game droid like HK-47.
