ravi
Hey -- I put a preview of a project I'm working on to mod Grim Fandango to be used for teaching Spanish at http://www.archive.org/download/the_sims_teach_german/the_sims_teach_german.wmv . Hopefully soon I'll figure out how to lip-synch it properly and get it to work with GRIMe. -Ravi

I have never heard about such programmes; have you started to work on it already? If you need any help on it (regarding Spanish, that is; I have only basic knowledge on 3D arts or whatsoever) feel free to ask, but I am sure you know the language quite well (Where are you from?). Luck with that.
VampireNaomi
Your link won't work for me, but that sounds like an intriguing project. Keep us updated about it.
ravi
Hm, what happens when you try opening the video? Maybe try the links on the left hand column of http://www.archive.org/details/the_sims_teach_german ?
ravi
Your project is an interesting idea. I have never heard about such programmes; have you started to work on it already? Well, we've just done as much as is shown in the video. But, now that we've figured out the process, it's just a matter of recording a bunch more sentences. If you need any help on it (regarding Spanish, that is; I have only basic knowledge on 3D arts or whatsoever) feel free to ask, but I am sure you know the language quite well I actually don't know any Spanish -- partially why I'm making this thing -- actually, all that needs to be done is to read in sentences in English. In terms of 3D art and all that, it uses all that stuff from the game. (Where are you from?). Cambridge, Massachussets (Boston). You? You can find out more than you'd ever want to know about me at http://www.langwidge.com

Cambridge, Massachussets (Boston). You? Argentina. I have to speak this language constantly, so I know a bit about it.
ravi
How is it possible to make a language programme if you don't know that certain tongue? Intriguing, yet creative. Oh, it just uses all the voices from the Spanish version of the game, so I just use those and only have to add the English narrartor layer. VampireNaomi
Oh, it just uses all the voices from the Spanish version of the game, so I just use those and only have to add the English narrartor layer. Then it doesn't really teach the language, does? It only teaches certain phrases, but to learn the language you have to study verb conjugations, tenses and all that. Still, promises to be a fun project. The video works now too. Thanks.

No, it teaches full grammar -- the learning pedagogy is based off the manuscript behind the popular Pimsleur Series of language learning (my original background is actually in linguistics and language pedagogy -- not programming)
VampireNaomi
Oh, in that case. Good luck. I can only imagine what an effort it must be to create something like that for a language you don't speak.

ravi
Its a beautiful idea, but Manny is Mexican, So make sure his acent is Spanish-Mexican. Oh, it uses the sound from the Spanish version of the game, so it's whatever accent that is.
