How to create a server? (Jedi Outcast)

Hello! Me and a friend want's to play against eachother over the internet and i works fine as long as we play on the other servers we find i the "join game" menu and "refresh". But when i create a server and gives him my IP he doesn't find anything when he add me to his favorites, and I don't find his server even though the IP:s are correct. I am aware that this is a very general question but if you have any idea it would be much appreciated!

Your friend could just pull down the console and type \connect 000.00.000.00 (obvciously with the IP address in there instead of the zeros )
