modder friendly?

Hello,

First of all i'd like to say that i love the KOTOR series and secondly i'd like to say that i'd love to see more epic KOTOR stories ^^

That being fact, i came here looking to start a project. In good tradition it would have to be professional, unrealistic and downright insane. kkk. Anyways since i have some experience with the aurora engine i thought it would be a heaven sent to create a KOTOR module...

Now as far as i can read it's not even possible to import a new model... let alone a complete new area (i'm not talking about making more copies of dantooin that look a bit different or darth revan with a new colour of cape etc). No custom areas? No custom NPC?

That is a bit disappointing. Perhaps it would be easier to make a KOTOR module with the unmodified aurora and toolset then... :-P

Please correct me if i'm wrong, but this seems an obvious lame attempt at making sure no one but licensed LA producers make any kind of SW rpg's. Heaven forbid someone would actually make something of considerable quality and release it to the public FOR FREE NO LESS... whatever will we do.. boo *snip* hoo. :ball:

Now if anyone even thinks about canceling KOTOR 3 i'm gonna go *snip* and spent my every waking moment comtemplating a hostile takeover of the franchise O.o

So anyone know of any affordable licensable/suitable game engines?:coffee:

Darth nutter,

These games aren't NWN, and we have no official support for modding the game, none, nada, zilch, zero, nix, etc.

While some valiant people are working on some of the aspects you are asking about, the limitations are something we unfortunately have to live with.

So yes... No custom areas... No custom NPC's...

Scripting, 2da editing, minor model tweaks, and reskins are the only tricks of the trade currently.

Who knows what the future holds, but until there is a breakthrough, we can only do what we can do.

Also please refrain from posting posts with foul language (I removed them this time), this forum is for all ages. I know most kids do actually talk like they do on South Park, but that is how we like things around here. ;)

Welcome to the forums.

LOL

Nice, mods with a sense of humor ;-)

I'm sry if my choice of words offended anyone, i'll try to be a good boy in the future :halo2:

Lack of modding support is painful and even after years on various scenes i'm not sure if i fully understand why devs cannot release their tools even after the decision has already been made not to make further use of the engine for sequels and xpacks. To me it feels like devs no longer care after they've received our money and perhaps released a few patches to save credibility for future sales.

While i live in the real world and understand the concept of business, i also understand the concept of loyal fans who put up with bugs and rushed design and patiently wait for patches and updates with no monetary compensation of any kind.

So much for my little gripe... :violin:

Good to see some people atleast try but it simply isn't enough to support a community that produces large projects/total conversions. Which is of course very unfortunate especially for such a promising game.

Oh well, keep the spirits up to the people who are modding kotor and let's hope episode 3 might bring some more support.. but i doubt it.

I do agree with you that support for modding would have been nice. ;) But alas LA chose a different route. As I said before, we cannot tell what the future holds, who knows when or if a breakthrough could happen that would allow us to do some of those things. :)

Being everything has been said and this topic has become off-topic for Holowan Labs, I'm going to have to close this thread now.
