Antilles and Organa

I was watching Ep One the other day, and noticed something odd.

When Palpatine says of his nomination, he mentions others nominated, among them Bail ANTILLES of Alderaan ! Err - NO - Bail ORGANA was Alderann's leader !

You are all going to say - he may have been (yeah, right !)

The Captain of the Corvette at the very start of Ep4 (being chased by Vader's SD), and former owners of C3PO and R2D2, was Captain Antilles. That is belivable because of Wedge being a pilot of such skill - it runs in the family (Leia and Luke and the Kids etc).

So what IS George playing at !

Keyan's (possibly unintentionally) paraphrasing something Lucas said in an interview.

There is no connection; Antilles is a fairly common human name in the GFFA. Apparently "Bail" is a common first name as well on Alderaan.

Besides, Captain Antilles of the Tantive IV was Alderaanian. Wedge Antilles was Corellian.

Now that you mention it, Beastie, I think I remember something like that from an interview, although I didn't think about it before. Of course, we all know what really happened - George screwed up the names wink.gif

Captain Antilles of the Tantive is of no relation to General Antilles of Star Fighter Command, it is mentioned several times in the books.

Bail Antilles was supposed to be Bail Organa. There's a picture of Bail Organa in the TPM Sticker book thing that I have, but he was replaced by Bail Antilles in the movie because they wanted to wait on using the Bail Organa character until he actually fit into the story.

Rogue 9: the problem is that the books are noncanon as such you can't take them literally since Lucas didn't write them.

they are approved by the company though, by extension lucas himself. tongue.gif

only use the Bantam Books as a reference and you won't get very many inconsistancies

yeah i was amazed when i saw how complex it all was and there were almost no mistakes almost all the books interlink in someway with the other wons - maybe its a character etc or sometimes its a whole storyline and to understand the star wars universe i really think you have to read them all

Of course, as it was pointed out on RASSM, it's possible that, on Alderaan, family name descends from the female side (as opposed to in North America, where the husband's family name is taken by the wife).

It's possible that Bail Antilles eventually marries someone named Organa before they adopt Leia.

Four if you count Corellia Antilles from WEG's Adventure Journal.

She's like the Sydney Fox of the GFFA. cool.gif
