How do I...

I need to know how I create a completely new file for K1 and K2. First, how do I make it determine if the file is armor or robe. Then, how do I make it determine the dexterity, defense, other bonuses, and description? What I'm wanting to do is take the Jal Shey model, retexture it, and create a new armor-robe that way. Also, I need to know how to take an existing head model, retexture it, then create it as a new selection not replacing any other selection. I guess what I'm basically asking is: how do I take a pre-existing model, retexture it, yet create a completely new item/selection. I've read the tutorials and everything, but for some reason I don't understand. Can somebody please dumb this down for me?

First, with making a new armor based on the Jal Shey. http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?t=126482 has most of the information you need for finding the textures; IIRC, the Jal Shey model is the one right after Revan's Robes in the .2da.

Using Kotor Tool, look under BIFs--> templates.bif--> Blueprint, Item to find a Jal Shey .uti. You can use KSE to find one a little easier by going into the inventory on a saved game. a_robe_11.uti is one of the Jal Shey based armors. Open it in Kotor Tool, go to the Properties tab, double click on a line and it'll pull up a selection of things you can change or add to the armor. This is where you would add dexterity bonuses or defense modifiers, etc.

In Description, rename your armor to whatever you want it to be called in game and describe it in the fields for each.

In Properties, change the Texture Variation to something else, like 35...rename the armor's Tag so that it has the correct texture variation on the end. Save the .uti with the new tag name.

Find the texture associated with the .uti (use T7Nowhere's tutorial there to help find it; you'll find them under ERFs --> TexturePacks --> swpc_tex_tpa.erf (or tpb, tpc, but the tpa's are the highest quality), open it with Kotor Tool, highlight the text below the picture, click the tick box to export that as a .txi (it's especially important if there's anything in the box about baremetal, etc.), then click write file, and it will save the texture as a .tga, and save the .txi. Rename both so that they have the same Texture Variation number at the end.

You should have a new custom armor now. If you want to reskin it, open the .tga file in a graphics program. There's a list of useful programs in the General Tutorial and Tools section. When you're done, drop all three files into Override and you should be good. Just make sure they all have the same number at the end as the .uti has for Texture Variation

http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?t=126482 should get you through making an entirely new PC. I can't explain it any better than that, although you'll have to extract different files and textures, based on whichever head you want to change colors on. DS transitions can be tricky, but you basically name each transition with d, d1, d2, or d3 at the end of the new texture file. D is the farthest down the DS scale while d1 is the mildest transition.

Edit by Darth333: You might want to start checking the sticky tutorials first (look for Achilles handy tutorials) and get some tools: http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?t=143421 . If there is something you don't understand, you are welcomed to ask your questions but please do not "hijack" someone else's thread.

Kamir Sarin: To just test the item to make sure it works right ie right skin, right bonuses etc cheat the armour in with either the console or use KSE and put it in your inventory. If you are past that and are about to make it available in the game you can either find a unique character/container/merchant and add it to the inventory. Or using scripts script it so it appears on someone or something in the area you want it to appear.

tacomaterritory: Firstly, this is Kamir Sarin's thread so his questions take priority. Secondly we have a sub section of the Holowen labs full of tutorials for people to learn from. http://www.lucasforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=592 Look up things there and then if you still need help please feel free to make your own thread and ask any questions you have there.
