A close call

Driving along in my Blue 88' VW Fox 4-door, with "Hard-driving" Tick mounted on the hood. This morning on my way to work i was concerned about the "wiggling" of my steering wheel. Car drove straight, but the Driving wheel moved +/- 5 degrees as i drove it around 60-65 MPH.

When i stopped at work, it was still dark so i couldn't see anything, i had my CV-joints inspected not to long ago, and had the boots replaced as a precauction. Well, i got done with work, and totally forgot about the problem... drove home...

Then i went off to do some errands and i notcied as i was turning into a parking lot the wheel.. when not held went about +/- 20 degrees of movement... i looked at my tires.. they were not flat... so i decided to go immidantly home after this last errand.

Car did not drive erratically when i dorve the 3 miles home... still had the wiggle...

Finally get home... check the driver side front tire... jacked it up, and spun the tire.. nothing... as i had the driver side still up, i notices silver things sticking out of my front passanger tire.

The tire had been worn down to the steel belts in 2 places, one on the inside, and one on the outsdie. Immidantly got the spare out (it was a real honest to good spare tire, and not one of those cheap imitation tires) and replaced it.

I am just glad i didn't get a flat on my way to milwaukee this weekend. Seems like someone is looking out for me smile.gif

If you're adept at striking a wheelie off the nearest fire hydrant at takeoff, driving on only two good tires will work just fine.

Only you could turn a way of almost getting yourself killed into a way of incresing your car's value!
