Help with photo shop texturing

Hi all,

Ive been messing about changing some armor skins and darth malak skins but i cant get good looking quality skins. I've followed the tutorials and stuff to be able to do what i can now, but my problem is more of a "lack of photoshop skill".

To begin with i would just choose red and spray it all over the part i wanted to change, it works, but looks very basic. I then started adding some of photoshops pre made patterns such as bubble bars, or rain bow effect etc. These are good to mess about with but just look silly in the end lol.

I was wondering how can i change the colour of say darth revans robe, but keep all the detail in it?

Thanks in advance all.

The best way to recolor a texture would be to use the polygon selection tool to select the area you want to change, copy and then paste it as a new layer and hit ctrl+u to bring up the hue and saturation tool.

This is also a very basic recoloring method but its better than painting a solid color over the texture. ;)

Edit: Also we have a few recoloring tutorials in our Skinning and Modeling forum.
