Some members of my group and I are going to try and make our online XWA Persona's into characters for the new Star Wars RPG game from West End games.

I'd also be willing to do it for anyone else as well. (hell we need the friends and allies now don't we???).

Either hit me up back here or email me and i'll get you back with the vital stats.

Are you using WEG stats, and Character Guides?

They dont work IMHO

I have a sure fire way of Character creation based on WEG that is sort of a Homebrew.

It allows for your own class cretion, Default skills, and overall mor skills, and skill points

now i jsut have to find it

Bad Monkey. Made a mistake. Suppose to be the new Wizzards of the West Coast game.

Yes. We're using the character guides and the rules as much as possible. We are allowing for advanced characters to star (some place between 8th level and 12 level max). A few people have/are deciding to start off as first level characters though.

------------------

Nova Squadron, the Elite B-Wing flight group stationed aboard the Nebulon B Frigate 'Oracle', home of the tech library.

'No capitol too large, no corvette too armed. NOVA squadron, for ALL your extermination needs. Our special at the moment - SSDs (See our work with the Iron Fist !) !'

Commander Jon 'DFMD' Adamson - leader of Nova Squadron (B-Wing ID = 'The White Witch')

West End Games (WEG) wrote the original rules to the Star Wars Role Playing game back in the late 80s/early 90s. There were a couple of revisions on it.

Then last year, Wizzards of the West Coast (a subisdary of Hasbro), got the rights to the RPG. WotWC also made Dungeons and Dragons Role Playing game. This sort of brings Star Wars RPG more in line with "main stream" RPG'ing.

except D&D is practically the only one still out there. There's a turnover. The WEG version of Star Wars is now, well out of date.

most reviews say abandoning the WEG format is for the best. Jedi now are limited in their abilities. It uses the d20 system.

Force Powers are easier to use since they are now a sub category of skills.

Plus a whole magazine will be published on forming new campaigns and adventures on the new system.

If that's not enough, Bill Salvisvek (spelling), one of the design team of the WEG, the author of the Guide to the Star Wars Universe, Was the project leader for the new Wizzards of The Coast game. Plus I like the stats on the Yuzzon Vong and their weapons. Kick ass picture of a Vong in Vondum Crab Armor.

I've seen one problem with the WotC system.

The character creation is INCREDIBLY limited.

I suppose it's what you get when you try to adapt AD&D into SW, but it's just plain unacceptable, especially in terms of the limited number of "classes" you have to choose from.

Personally I think it's best to create a character using the WEG rules(which are far more versatile) and try converting those to WotC if you MUST use the new rules.

Simplicity is best, but coming from a SW fan, the WotC char creation is the pits.

It's not that limited. Character creation only gets complicated when you try and make your character into a "prestige" class. You have to meet certain minimal skill requirements. You never are stuck to one class. You can create a multiclass character. Most people who are *****ing find that they are finally put under mortal restrictions. That's something called realism.

You actually have more than the basic classes. These prestige classes have to be eanred however. Some of the prestige classes are Bounty Hunter, Ace Pilot, Crime Lord. More can be added based on stats you create. You have to be an advanced character (past 7th level) in most cases to be a prestige class.

Besides, if limited means you find that you don't have enough initial oppurtunity and actually have to challenge yourself as a player to advance, then I'm all for it. Nothing should come easy.

Besides, I found most RPG by WEG to be not as well played with the exception of Star Wars. And since there won't be anymore WEG publications on Star Wars, the newer players of the SW RPG will be from WoTC.

Just a personal aside here, I found that when I wanted to start to RPG about 10 years ago, specificly SW, none of the players in my area would teach me. The D&D players were more than happy to accept. So, for those who continue to play the WEG version appear to me as the non-inclusive restrictive, isolationists who don't want to share their enjoyment of star wars with others.

I'd just be weary of what a Nineteenth Centrury scientist wrote, "those unwilling or unfit to adapt, are selected by nature to become extinct."

IF the whole point is to enjoy Star Wars with as many as possible, the future lies with WoTC version. That's life. It changes, adapts and moves on.
