Naja
I have a collection of problems running Grim Fandango on my XP computer. I've installed the game and patched it up to 1.01. Now, I have three problems: 1. Graphics. For some reason the graphics get very messed up wherever I go (can't describe it any better). The pixels get all weird and funky, but the cutscenes look just fine, and everything else works. 2. Sound. Sometimes the sound abruptly stops (even though I can sometimes still interract with things in the game). This usually happens in the middle of dialogues, when I'm choosing something for Manny to say. Sometimes the game itself freezes. 3. Cutscenes skip. Sometimes the cutscenes (including the sounds) skip and stutter. No matter what I do, I always have at least one of these problems. I've tried setting the game to all levels of compatibility (none, Win 95, Win 98, Win 2000, etc.), and all that does is change which of the above problems I have. What are my other options at this point?

Du Man
I have a collection of problems running Grim Fandango on my XP computer. I've installed the game and patched it up to 1.01. Now, I have three problems: 1. Graphics. For some reason the graphics get very messed up wherever I go (can't describe it any better). The pixels get all weird and funky, but the cutscenes look just fine, and everything else works. do you mean the backgrounds or the 3d characters are messed up? 2. Sound. Sometimes the sound abruptly stops (even though I can sometimes still interract with things in the game). This usually happens in the middle of dialogues, when I'm choosing something for Manny to say. Sometimes the game itself freezes. oh yeah, the techno music. I have no idea how to overcome this problem w/ new machines. it will also occur everytime you make progress. my solution, save the freez file, close the game, reload, reload the freez safe file. yeah i hated it to but i still managed to enjoy the game. you might even try playing it a second time through, and maybe it won't freez as much. 3. Cutscenes skip. Sometimes the cutscenes (including the sounds) skip and stutter. this dosn't sound like the problem I had, but my best suggestion is do the same as i said to do for problem #2. No matter what I do, I always have at least one of these problems. I've tried setting the game to all levels of compatibility (none, Win 95, Win 98, Win 2000, etc.), and all that does is change which of the above problems I have. What are my other options at this point? compatiblity dosn't matter, it didn't work for me. my best suggestion is that Windows 98 might be nicer. other than that, your options depend on what anybody else can suggests
Naja
Yes, this does seem to be an issue exclusive to faster machines, since my other computer (a few years older) seems to run Grim just fine. Perhaps CPU Killer might work for me?
Naja
Edit: I just tried CPU Killer, no dice. The game still froze after Manny started talking (after the cutscene where he puts Bruno in the casket ended). Any other suggestions?
