Warlords are popular because they come pre uved pre skinned and pre models.

However, modelers often go to larger mods because the larger mods always require new units

3ds max 6 or 8 is used to model. It's a 500 dollar program. Look it up on the web... there are plenty of tutorials on it.

Kelathinadun it is strange that people anjunce some large(with many new models) mod but there are no simple new models for download. (Simple- means only one not in mod ( anakin foe example)

I have to remember not to log into my old account, rofl.

Anyhow, I can explain to you why there are no simple models to download.

Warlords killed the community. When Warlords came out, everyone learned how to rig and the only mods successful were one that rigged warlords. Thus all the mods were the same, no new mods came in.

With petty squabbling, there are few senior modders in the community. No tutorials for eaw/foc modeling, basically people left the community. Petro and mod leaders going try to change that.

You can google them

3dkingdom

and proclone are good sites for stuff

tutorials for 3ds max can be googled. Use 3dkingdom and proclone as searches.

is why there are no models availible.

Kelathin, what steps is petro taking to bring more modellers into the community? They have just start really branching out into the community and I hope they become a lot more active with it for sure.

there is sufficient tutorials for rigging simply because that is game specific information, no one would know how to do it, it isn't specifically applicable to any other game etc. Honestly they should have made a mod tool package for gmax because 3ds max is way out of most people's league. (like what was done with C&C generals)

I have seen very few game specific communities that spend extra time on teaching people how to model and texture, there may be a 'modelling/texturing tutorial for noobs' as a single thread and helpful people, but modellign and skinning is usually a solo endevour as far as acquiring skill goes.

If the community didn't attract modellers because of me I'm suprised, most of my models are inefficient geometry and horribly textured/UVd. They are not optimized for EAW and not structued for it. Any artist that wanted to could simply make a better more optimized model or generate thier own (and mods have, but since they are working on their own internal projects they can't release them until they are ready)

The intent of the model pack release was much larger than EAW, it was a general gift to the entire SW community to use or not use, if people felt it sucked then they were well within their right to critizise and not use.

The primary problem in any gaming community is a lack of content. Mods that have 3 textured ships out of an ambitious shiplist of dozens and they never finish and they die. This isn't Quake/source or UT where you have millions of people playing mods and thousands of coders and artists, it's a much smaller community.

I didn't supply ground units or facilties so where are all the ground unit modellers???? what about the non-SW mods (Halo, ST) I scared all those people off too?

I didn't supply many old ships so mods like the sith war and kotor era are on thier own. LOW was offered the package before it was released and they declined, they have done a lot of very good work in the last year.

if you are wondering about the lack of single ship mods, then think about the logistics of that and how you would distribute and manage the mess of xml files (until FOC came out) and compatibility problems, wouldn't you rather just package them into a mod?

before you cry about it killing the community think about how many mods actually have a real following and were kickstarted because I was generous and they have plenty of content to deliver and work on and pursue thier own coding while adding in thier own art as they go? How many ship modellers were there in the first place to drive away? maybe someone doesn't want to make a dreadnaught because there is one already available, but that is their choice and there are plenty of ships I did not include or make so there is no lack for things to do.
