Cabana_Boy
I am not sure how many of you are going to be needing to buy new graphics cards for EMI, but I am just warning those who don't already know (and don't have a good enough card) that the minimum is an 8mb graphics card. Although in some places the minimum is stated as 4mb, I tried running it on my PC with a 4 mb card, PII 266, 64 mb RAM, and was getting frame rates on average of about 4 frames/second. This is just a warning, as the primary componenet need for this game will be the graphics card, the processor will not matter too much. I got Deus Ex min. PII 300 working v.smoothly on it. I have seen to the problem, recently getting Dad to buy a new 3DFX Voodoo 4 4500 (32 mb SDRAM), so I am covered. I am sure this applies to only a few people with Pc's like mine at the moment, but if you want to enjoy what will hopefully be one of the best adventure games ever, then I recommend you do something about it ---NOW---! LeChuck1587246204
You got Deus Ex running smoothly but couldnt get EMI going well??? How the hell can you get the Unreal Engine going fine but not the GRIME? BTW, enjoy your Voodoo 4. Turn on the FSAA, inproves the graphics a bit, smoothens out the jaggy edges. I do with my GeForce 2 MX.
Murray18
i got my diamond viper v770 running EMI smooth....32 MB ought to do it ------------------ "mwahahaha" - Murray
Cabana_Boy
"LeChuck You got Deus Ex running smoothly but couldnt get EMI going well??? How the hell can you get the Unreal Engine going fine but not the GRIME? " I guess when you put it this way, it does seem pretty stupid. The reason is probably though that the MI 4 demo doesn't have options to change the scalability of the graphics, or I have missed it (if so please tell me!). Also, there are many display options for Deus Ex, and most of them are turned off, or turned down pretty far.
Cabana_Boy
Oh, just wondering, how do you quote other people's posts properly? When it has the 2 lines above and below thw quote. Thanks.
LeChuck1587246204
I dont know how to do quotes either! But yeah I suppose scalability is a reason, Deus Ex is still a real machine hog, it helps if you have a 3dfx card. Grime should work well with your computer though. I dont why it doesnt. Claire
If my computer runs Grim Fandango with 3D acceleration does that mean that it will run EMI?
Cabana_Boy
I can run Grim also, but I know that that says a 4mb graphics card will run it (it is either minimum or recommended), but the minimum for EMI is 8mb. The card is also pretty ****, a voodoo 1. I am still waiting for the goddam voodoo 4 to arrive though. I WISH IT WOULD HURRY UP!!! (A side note - How many posts are needed for the honourable status of Three-Headed Monkey, is it 30?)
Jonny Haggis
To do quotes, simply click on the 'reply with quote' symbol (letter with red arrow) beside the post you wish to quote from and delete what you don't want. Yup CB, it's thirty posts to grow an extra two heads. I just upgraded my PC to an 800mhz PIII (grins smugly) with 128MB ram and a Voodoo 3 5000!!! My little 3D guybrush will be runnin' so fast there will be smoke coming off his shoes! ------------------ Jonny Haggis
LeChuck1587246204
Cabana boy, if you havent picked up your Voodoo 4 yet I would suggest getting a GeForce 2 MX it goes for $125-$150 and is more powerful than the Voodoo 4 (dont know about voodoo5 but then thats expensive). GeForce 2 MX is a great card.
Cabana_Boy
Aw, dammit! I wish I had asked you guys advice before actually ordering, but I did order it on Sunday evening. I am sure it will be fine, and run all of the things I need it to run for a while. I know there are better cards, so please no derogatary comments! The company I ordered it with, Action (www.Action.com), are a good company, as they have an absolutely huge amount of everything, from full PC's to any component you could need, but I have found that their delivery is preety bad. Although it is too early to write or phone and complain (I think), I ordered it on Sunday, just before 11pm GMT, which they count as Monday, because it is late. Fair enough. But we payed for 2/3 day delivery, and it has not arrived Today (Thursday), which would have been 3 days. If and WHEN they do deliver it, i think we will be asking for the delivery cost of £6, (about $10) to be returned. What do you think I should do? LeChuck1587246204
I dont know. I normall dont order from th net, very rarely and only for games. If its their policy to give you your delievery money back then they should. Voodoo 4 will run it fine, dont worry.
Guest Guybrush112
I'm glad a voodoo 4 will do it. I was getting ready tobuy a new damn card! ------------------ "Mortal fool! schmonkey
I'm pretty sure I'm not getting everything out of my graphics card. I bought a Righteous Orchid 16Mb 3DfxII card on my old PC and put in my new one when I bought it. This already had an ATI Rage 8Mb card. I still find that I get slow down on most 3D games, but I'm running a PIII550 and 128Mb Ram. Any ideas?
LeChuck1587246204
Get a new 3D card. Your one aint any good. I would suggest a GeForce 2 MX, nothing lower. If you got more money to spend then get a GeForce 2 GTS, an GF2Ultra aint worth it so forget about that. A GeForce 2 MX will only cost you $100-150 max. Guest Guybrush112
yes a voodoo 3 would work, but what about a 3D AGP? ------------------ "Mortal fool! Release me from this retched tomb! Cabana_Boy
AAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! etc. etc. The bloody 3D card has still not arrived. AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!! I have phoned, and the info on the site was misleading, it says 3 day delivery, but apparently that means 3 day's from when they get it in stock. However, there is no clue on the site to tell you if it is in stock. DAMMITDAMMITDAMMIT!!! I am going to have to wait (apparently), until 3rd November, when they get the next lot in stock. It will not come until about the 6th then! I live in England though, so the game comes out about a week later, so it should be OK, but still. GGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!! What a h***le!!! ------------------ "You're a bunch of foul-smelling, grog-swilling pigs"

LeChuck1587246204
Call em and tell em to screw your order, cancel the order. Get a GeForce 2 MX its available eveywhere and itll give you greater bang for your buck. Do it while you have time. Check to see if you have a AGP slot first though, you should. Cabana_Boy
Nope, I am afraid I have known from the beginning that I haven't got an AGP, just 2 x PCI slots. Are there any toher better AGP cards for a 'good price', that anyone knows of? Thanks for the advice anyway LeChuck, if I find a better card quickly, then I will cancel definately! ------------------ "You're a bunch of foul-smelling, grog-swilling pigs"
