i just love AOK and The Conquerors. so that explains a bit why i'm going ape over GB, since i love SW as well..

AOK has a really nice 'real world feel' to it. that's what really draws me in. you know, where the units actually look like humans and not some super-deformed cartoon-hero..

My list:

1. Shogun: Total War ( half Rts, half turn based)

2. AoK + conquerors

3. Alpha Centauri (half Rts, half turn based but not the same half as my first choice).

4. Homeworld

I don't think it was Rom, care to explain your opinion?

leon, i just saw conquerors today at the shop and read into it. i didn't know units could take cover with battering rams? i don't know, i think starcraft is still my fav, but AoK is a close second and homeworld third........

Jay, yeah, units can be garrisoned inside those rams. that's why i think they'll let stormtroopers hide in ATAT's and transports.. after all, that's what they're for !

i went through several stages with RTS-games.

first it was Dune 2 (played that a WHOLE lot...), then it was Warcraft, then Warcraft 2, then Command & conquer, then Red Alert, then a whole period of Starcraft, then Total Annihilation (played that a whole lot too), then Age of Empires and a brief stint with Red Alert 2. Age Of Empires has ruled my pc since it came out.

i think i played almost every RTS out there, except for Homeworld..

Man, i can't decide whether to pay 50 bucks for it. Tell me honestly, is it really worth that much as old as it is and with GB coming out?

this is the last time i tell you: yes !!!

honestly, this is post-wasting.. go buy it. now.

and while i'm at it, let me add another RTS to that list i played: Tiberian Sun. But i played i very briefly. didn't like it at all... it was slooooooooow....

Ok, i just got it. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyways, TS wasn't the best C&C game of all time, but it was kind fun.

Paragon Leon: Yes the units are small but that does not hurt the overall look on the battlefield. The real time battles look much more lika a sim than a game, its breathtaking.

Imagine up to 1920 warriors on each side with incredible map detail, sound details like arrows passing buy, dead bodies everywhere....

The first time you battle during a thunderstorm, you will probably loose. You will forget your army and just stare in disbelief, drooling on your keyboard.

Age of Mythology ...

Altough that game is still in the making, it makes me drool more than GB ... It's from Ensemble and Ensemble games are my favorite (rts) games.

After that comes The Settlers of Catan, it's a board game, but not a bored game ... and it is stratagy (altough turn based)

Rebellion, Worms armageddon ... they're a tottaly different kind of stratagy but that's because I don't like all those other RTS games as much (C&C, SC) AoK: TC currently is just the best!

Hmm, worms armegeddon. Is that not one of the most fun and addicting games ever? I know it is, just admit it? :D

I would like too Rom, but i can't. You have to be on the Forums for 10 days, AND you have to have 1000 posts. So, two more days or so and i'll have my own rank.

Paragon_Leon: Nope MP aint that good, mainly because of the server on Ea MP, a lot of freezing and "drops". Most of us don't play comp games because of these problems, just friendlies.

The game is considered "complicated" by a lot of young players, no head on rushes in this game(you will loose). Like a sim everything counts, morale, fatigue, season, temperature, map (woods, height on a hill for missile fire), proximity of the taisho (general), experience of your troops (honor), manoeuvers ( Attack from a flank or surprise attack from the rear =bonus), speed (cavalry charge=bonus), what type of unit you send against what.

Each "sprite"(unit) moves individually but you issue your orders on a squad basis. You can really get immersed in the atmosphere.

Like in a battle, the units do not always obey your order, they may rout and flee when the morale is low or get "impetious" and attack without orders if they gey too cocky and sure of themselves.

But if you are still interested in the game wait a couple of days and get the warlord Edition , it's the original game + the new ex-pack together.

i might just do that... thanks for the thorough update.

I played three minutes of a Sudden Strike demo yesterday and for a moment imagined it in a Star Wars setting..

the excitement builds...

OK i may be new here but i am going to put in my two cents.

favorit 5 (in no real order)

Rebellion

Force Commander

Armada

Star Trek Away Team

Baldur's Gate II

I liked the game play of AOEII but i could never get passed that graphics. (Every Civ looks the same.)

*looks at the door just incase every one starts throwing stuff*

Wraith5; welcome ! and by all means, don't let your 'newbie'-feel keep you from posting...

I have ST Armada, but it's so incredibly bugged i couldn't even get past mission # 5. that's just plain bad... i tried multiplayer but only finished one game because it constantly crashed.

The ATAT-feature is one i really hope they did.. it's a golden opportunity !
