Jawa Bond
Well I made this account to post a friends movie in the other thread and it might look bad if I only had 3 post- I MEAN I WANT TO OFFER MY SUGGESTIONS TO THIS MOD IN ORDER TO MAKE IT THE GREATEST IN THE UNIVERSE! Joking aside I can maintain a serious attitude for long enough to post an idea (no promises on my replies). Right now we've had a lot of talk about sabers, but really gunners are in here and we can't ignore them. In close range gunners should have atleast an oppurtunity to fight back. Possibly a kick, or even better a halo style gunbash. These would be based on the weapons your holding when using the attack. So basically pistol is like a melee punch and does 2-3 damage no knockback (you have force with pistol don't complain). Moving a little farther down the line going to rocket launcher, big heavy swing maybe like a baseball bat or the one from halo (crush downwards with the base of it for MASSIVE DAMAGE), doing a ton of damage and a knockdown, but slow windup or whatever and a cooldown time to balance it out. As well while gun bashing or whatever if you get shot or slashed you have no dodge. You nail the jedi good for you, you miss you shouldn't be allowed a second chance. Also maybe if you miss (or even if you hit) there should be a cooldown after the bash, ranging from small to 20 second target. I'm sure there are flaws in it, but its only an idea. If you want to flame, add a helpful suggestion at the end so we don't think your just a total jackass and I don't cry.
Grey Raven
You know, gunners don't get enough attention paid to them, these days. About all they get is something like a rocket launcher or other explosive device that might be useful if it weren't for the fact that force-users can just do something like force push the explosive away (and back at the attacker, no less). Whatever happened to "nothing beats a good blaster at your side, kid"? I mean, in Episode II, Jango, a total bad a** in my opinion, guns down a jedi with just one pistol. A PISTOL. And we see the clones in Episode III basically commit Jedicide with only blasters. Oh, well. Rant over with, an idea. I just got done playing KOTOR II (again ) and I decided to play as a ranged specialist for the first time. Anyway, I started looking at the ranged feats, also for the first time, and the Targeting feats really caught my attention. For those who don't know, in KOTOR II (and KOTOR) a Jedi can deflect blaster bolts if they roll a high enough number. The Targeting feats allow a ranged player to actually inflict a penalty to the defending Jedi's deflection roll every time they make a successful attack. Now, I've kinda got RPG-on-the-brain-itis, so I'm more than a little biased, I guess. But since OJP uses an experience system with gunnery anyway, maybe a function could be implemented whereby as the ranged player progresses in rank with a particular weapon, their accuracy increases AND the defending Jedi's ability to deflect/dodge the bolt goes down. Enough so that if a ranged player has, say, a higher rank weapon skill than the defending Jedi has saber defense skill, it's almost a guaranteed hit. I was tinkering with the idea of using OJP to make a JA Action/RPG mod once school lets back out (which will be while, sorry), but if I can see such functionality in OJP, hmmm... Jawa, the weapon bash idea is good, but OJP aims for movie accuracy, and it's probably not gonna happen that someone with a hot, glowing death stick of ultimate destruction is going to allow someone to even get close enough to bash him/her with a rifle or pistol. You'd have to be like Neo The One good to do that Anyway, you bring up a good point, and I don't think anyone on these forums is going to flame you for it. Ooo, maybe I was wrong... Jawa Bond
The targeting thing is in use for pistol I believe. Which is why there's 3 levels, lvl 3 is most accurate I think. Yes force pretty much > guns. Right now it's just hybrids vs jedi, going only gunner isn't the greatest way to go. RPG would require going to the same server OVER and OVER again. The only reason we would do that right now is since we probably only have 2 servers. I would like an expensive Westar pistol solely designed against jedi, with a weakness to gunners somehow (no clue how). But all in due time. Grey Raven
Well, about the server issues... I was gonna try this for my RPG mod, but, honestly, it might not get done, and I'd like to see it before people stop playing JA. But it's all too possible to have a persistant client scoring system implemented almost exclusively client-side. The lovely Id developers wrote (or rather re-wrote) some basic file stream fuctions into the source, so all you'd have to do is use them to create/open a text file (I think you can open in binary mode, which is so much better, but this is unverified), write whatever player stats you wanted to it, close it, then load those values every time the players connect to a OJP RPG server. The values can easily be communicated through the source, so getting the values to the server is no problem. Basically, as long as all computers connected to the server are running the mod, you've got no problems. Except...The only real hitch is that some people like to cheat just cuz they suck, so you'd have to encrypt the files somehow. I couldn't do that, since I don't know diddly about encryption of any kind. This could also work for saved game files, if you wanted to make a "single player" mod for OJP, hint hint . Yango
Um there was a topic about that but it went down I think. I would not implement dice rolls or anything random. Instead you could make 2 shots aimed to different bodyparts of a jedi taking more dp/mp to parry then 2 shots in the same spot. You get the idea? DarthDie
@Grey Raven: Hey if you ever get working on that mod let me know I would love to help you. @Jawa Bond: About your idea...im not sure, its interesting..and I can kinda see it helping as long as you can do it when the jedi isnt sabering. *shrug*
Maxstate
I actually can haul ass to hell and back using a gunner in the latest versions no problem.
Jawa Bond
What did you think I was asking for? Just kidding. Also Darth its really so that Jedi don't just completely DOMINATE in close range. Sure it makes sense, but I'd like balance to fit into this equation. I mean as a gunner and you got a jedi closing in you can what jetpack away or shoot them and pray you kill them? Why not if they have proper timing and accuracy they can buy themselves a little more time (with a drawback of course).

DarthDie
I program. I've got my mod (which I havent worked on in a while...*embarrassed smilie here*), I work on OJP. Then I have some other programming projects.
Grey Raven
That's great! If I get it up and running, I'll certainly let you know. Peace. BTW: What kind of mod is it? - Grey Raven
DarthDie
Well...its basically just a big mix of features and stuff...mostly stuff that I would like OJP to have but know it would never be added...such as a building system, grapple(code from Last hope mod), GameMonkey scripting , stuff like that. And also has stuff that other people want in it.
